A couple pics of the snow this morning...

Pete in MI

New member
This one is out the kitchen window overlooking the street and the neighbor's house...his mercury vapor light gives an amazing image

Those marks between his house and mine are where cars have traveled and gives an idea of snow depth.

This next one is from the porch .....those pine trees are bearing a burden of weight from the snow...they usually don't hang that low at all.

This pic shows tree limbs bent to the ground....they are usually straight across or slightly upward...that is a lot of weight.

Merry White Christmas to you all.

Thanks Pete for the beautiful pics! The wind is so strong here blowing the very fine and dry white flakes that not much is staying on rooftops or trees! Reminds me of Bill Crosby's, White Christmas! I have watched that movie most every year, as I really like the singing, the music and the scenery in it! But oh how long ago that was and either they have passed on or aged beyond belief, including me! May God Bless those with a White Christmas, who want it! Amen! Ma Betty

I'll even let whoever wants a white christmas to come get all the snow they want

Well, I don't think that would work, but I know you Northerners would like to have less of it....so ya don't have to use blowers, shovels and rakes so much to keep roofs from falling in and tree branches from breaking off! We had a terrific ice storm not too many years ago that just about stripped the limbs off of sooooo many trees...specially Pines! I read where the Minnesota Stadium's roof collapsed...sooo no games there for awhile! May God Bless and don't work too hard and save your body and heart from a lot of stress...not good for older people.... Well, me anyway and for me not to work that is a good excuse! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

We've been "Dreaming of a White Christmas" ever since Bing sang about it, but we've never had one yet!

Christmas in the Sydney area is around 85

Nice pictures. We are getting snow right now and the roads are already white.

I've been dreaming but NOT of a white Christmas! If there were a way to package up all the 'White Stuff' we've got here, in West Michigan, I'd be happy to ship it ONE way to whomever wants it. Never did like winter. It may be pretty to look at but that's as far as it goes. Sorry folks. I much prefer white sandy beaches, palm trees, and gentle breezes. I'll take the Philippines and Hawaii anytime.

Well, Martin, when you do get the sandy, white beaches and warmer weather may you enjoy them to the fullest and in the meantime just stay indoors and enjoy looking at what God can create that is so beautiful! Ma Betty

Hi C Kaye and if you had the cold, white stuff, ya all would just about probably freeze to death in Australia by not having it before! The area would come to a halt with no business at all, like they do here when it gets too bad with the ice and slickness! I don't care much for winter, but I do like the four seasons we have and would miss wintertime, if we didn't have it by living here all my life...just glad I don't have to travel back and forth to work in it any more and stay inside where it is warmer! Hope you have a Merry Christmas anyway...even in the A/C! :) Ma Betty

WHew!!!! Glad you have heat and that I live in the south. That's a lot of snow Pete...great pics too!

Ya know Ma as much as I am not real crazy about snow I prefer it over some of the things Australia has to offer. I have heard - on a learning channel somewhere - the most deadly critters like snakes, spiders, etc live in Australia. We have nasty spiders and down south poisonous snakes but nothing like I saw on the tv. Not that I dislike the people of Australia or the nice warmth...I'd rather be cold than bitten and dead.

Me, too, Pete....I don't like snakes and creepy crawlers and I wouldn't like to live where they are sooooo dangerously poisonous....They also have crocs that come up into the rivers, I think I saw or heard that and Great White Sharks endangering the swimmers and divers off Australia, but if you were born and live there all your life like we have in the states, then they are used to it, the same as we get used to the dangerous species here in the USA! I would like vacationing in the warmth for awhile but then I would like to be home with the four seasons here in MO, but the problem seems to be that there is only Summer and Winter with a very short Spring and Fall...the loveliest times of the year! One thing for sure, unless we can afford to move to someplace else, we better be satisfied with wherever we live! Ma Betty

The snakes are poisonous here, but they don't live in your backyard.

Secondly they don't care one bit about you; leave them alone and they'll leave you alone. It's the same with the spiders.

The Great White sharks are around, but if you look at any surfing beach you will see hundreds of swimmers in the water at any time, so the risk aren't very high.

The crocs are only in the extreme north and due care means safety.

We have all four seasons here, except in the extreme north. Each season is three months long, the same as you get.

Overall it does not get as cold here as you folk experience, but we do have snow in some parts of Oz with the inevitable Ski Resorts etc.

Australia is just about the same size as continental USA, so it's a big place and whatever weather you prefer is available by just selecting where you want to live.

One notable danger difference is that violent gun crime is very low here compared to the USA.

Sadly we do have it here, but violent gun crime in the USA is unbelievable compared to Aussie standards.

Give me the snakes, spiders, sharks, crocs any day compared to that.

All of those creatures are harmless compared to humans with weapons.

Having said all that, I've traveled in the US twice, made some good friends, was treated very well by everyone, would happily visit again, and never got shot even once!

And you won't get bitten here either.
