...Just a little while ago,I heard on the news that a bill to repeal the M/C helmet law in Michigan has made it either thru the Senate or the House;ultimately to land on the Honorable Jennie G's desk for final outcome-The last 2 times it has been vetoed by Jennie;she has said she will veto it no matter how many times it hits her desk while shes in office.NOW,there are 2 sides to this issue,for and against the helmet law..........Heres MY side:In 1972;while riding a M/C 70 MPH down a gravel road,I hit some water that flooded the road;and over the handlebars I went-Flew 30 feet,landed on my head..........Had gravel in my back,knee bruised.MOST IMPORTANTLY I had put a helmet on before riding-I checked the helmet,and there was DEEP gouges and scratches in it to the point that it was no longer usable,and I trashed it.Had I NOT been wearing that helmet;probly my HEAD would have been rendered unusable,and we ALL know what that means:sadwalk::stretcher::clsoedeyes:.........In any event;my opinion of this subject is:NEVER,EVEN IF ITS LEGAL WILL I RIDE ON THE STREET HELMETLESS....When I took my MSF Foundation training to get my cycle endorsement back on my license 5 years ago,they showed some graphic pics that were of people that rode and were involved in accidents that were not wearing helmets;it was NOT pretty:sadwalk:SO:Thats my story-For or against the law,sign in PLEASE!!!-boomer's dad.........
 
My thoughts....let those who ride decide. If I don't ride why do I have a right to tell you (via a law I vote for - directly at a polling booth or through a legislator) what you should or better wear.

Most bikers will still wear a helmet...because they aren't stupid. Those who chose not to will be responsible for their own decision and the resulting consequences of that decision. Even though there was a law, I wore my helmet when I rode a motorcycle. If there was no law and I still rode, I'd still wear a helmet.

That's my opinion.

if you give someone the choice on anything......some will choose wrong, but they had the freedom to choose.
 
I am for helmet laws . Some people will make bad decisions and it can effect their whole family . Alot of moms and dads ride and have kids that need them to take care of them. You can not replace your brain.
 
I grimace every time I see someone riding without a helmet. Back in 1978, my first wife and I had a motorcycle wreck. I ended up in the hospital overnight with a concussion. Don't remember anything after the bike went off the road. Looked at my helmet the next day and it was pretty well scratched up with pebbles in the face shield. If not for that helmet I would have died and probably my wife too. We were only going 45mph. I know some people who are living "vegetables" from just a little bump on the head from falling off the bike. If ya ride wear a helmet.
 
Sounds sensible to me to wear a helmet whether by law or not! Do M\C riders have to buy Motorcyle Ins the same as an auto driver has to have Ins? The taxpayer would have to pay for someone who is a vegetable and has no ins or ins that won't cover an accident but still be taken care of in a hospital or nursing home! I say wear a helmet, PLEASE! Vegtable, pull the plug.

I know that some times I do not sound very nice. However, I believe that this country and its states should not be able to tell me whether or not I wear a helmet or a seatbelt. The volume of laws and restrictions levied against us has become repressive.

Folks this is an issue of personal choice, period. If I want to die on a bike please let me. Do not let me be a vegitable though, pull the plug.

It is claimed that if this law passes;it will raise M/C insurance rate in Michigan by as much as 50%;because of the increased incidence of head injuries,and medical bills:sadwalk::ranting::veryangry::rant:...I think Im gonna send Jenny an E-mail to tell her how I feel-michigan.gov.........
 
This is my opinion. To all of you that do NOT want to wear helmets I want you to go out on a call that the police, fire company or ambulance may get when a motorcyclist is involved in a crash with head trauma. This is the part some may not have the stomach to read so I am warning you now. When you get there on site make sure you take a good look at the deceased persons head with half of it gone and their brains spread out on the street.

My question. Don't you think it is your responsibility to try to make sure that other people do NOT have to witness these types of things?

Sure your not going to die till GOD calls you. I am living proof of that as I was hit by a 1 1/2 ton truck from behind flew 150 feet and landed on my head (without a helmet) and as GOD would have it I have no permanent injuries. HOWEVER I did, after that, actually SEE a head trauma case just as I described above. I truly feel for the people that have to physically clean your brains off of the street. The people that have to pick up the OTHER part of your head. WHY DON'T YOU?

Welcome, candcantiques, to our forum! Glad to have you post your comments about M/C riders and accidents! I know I couldn't do the job of cleaning up after spilled blood and flesh accidents and would make me sick just to see the victims and their conditions! I hope and pray many will take your advice and wear helmets and be extra careful while riding on M/Cs and any other transportion, too! Amen! May God Bless! :angel: Ma Betty
 
Cleaning brains off of the road argument might get me to sway my opinion, and yes I have thought of that.

There are other ways to lower insurance premiums.

My question is this how much government intervention is to much?

Hmmmm, dumping toxic waste downtown is and should be illegal, it is just not safe. Maybe I will rethink my position.
