[size=medium]A Dream Come True
Posted 15 minutes ago
Brian was sound asleep in the recliner in an upright position with his head cocked at what had to be an extremely uncomfortable position. I gently pushed the chair back to a more comfortable angle and Brian woke up and said in a barely audible voice, "Daddy, I am so excited about tonight."
Late last fall we recieved a card in the mail from Dr. Mary Campbell. She had been on call on one of Brian's previous trips to the ER at E.T. Children's Hospital. Inside of the card was a note saying that she would like to submit Brian as a candidate to have a dream fulfilled from The Dream Connection.
Thank you Dr. Campbell, for thinking of Brian and taking the time out of your very busy schedule to send a card and to submit Brian as a candidate.
The 23rd of February, we met with Dream Connection volunteers, Wayne and Carolyn Art. They interviewed Brian and asked him to pick three items that he would really like to have. The first thing to come to mind was a laptop and his second option was a digital video camera. He really didn't know what else to choose as a third option and finally settled on a PS3. He totally ignored my suggestion of a new digital slr (LOL). Wayne also asked Brian if he would like a printer if they chose a new laptop. They said they would take Brian's selections before the board at The Dream Connection and would get back to us in a few weeks with their selection.
Wayne called Wednesday to ask if they could come by last night to present Brian with their selection. When our alarm went off (our dog, Bonnie) I checked outside and saw Wayne and Carolyn and their two children, Lorle and Mathew all walking up the driveway carrying gifts.
To our amazement they presented Brian with all three wishes along with a printer and a gift card to purchase software and games. We're still in shock and Brian was just stunned. The Dream Connection went far beyond what we expected as any one of those gifts would have been a real blessing to Brian.
But, the true blessing and best gift of all was having the opportunity to meet the Art family. Wayne and Carolyn are both in retail, jobs that require a lot of hours per week, and to take precious time out of their own busy lives to bring happiness to others is amazing to us. Their children were very polite and mature beyond their ages. We really enjoyed our visit and wished they could have stayed longer. Hopefully, our families can get together again very soon.
Many photos were taken but I haven't had time to edit and upload them but they will be coming soon.
Thank you Dr. Campbell for submitting Brian to have his dream fulfilled. Thank you Wayne, Carolyn, Lorle and Mathew for all you have done. It was a real pleasure to meet you all.
And thanks to The Dream Connection, for fulfilling Brian's dream and for all the childrens dreams you've fulfilled, in the past and in the future.
When Brian uttered those word last night, I knew he was re-living the previous hours. He was so thrilled. So excited. And, totally exhausted.
Thank you,
Doug, Carol, Sarah and Brian
