A few finds made on last Thursday Night.

to be so high for a Nickel with more than 10,000,000 Minted. Maybe there was a Large Fire or something that destroyed a bunch of these Nickels back in 1888 thus giving the reason for the price jump. If you ever look thru a Red Book, look at some of the Coins that are High Dollar and then look at the Mintage. There is a bunch that have a Higher Mintage but are still worth a lot more than other Years and Mintmarks that have a lot fewer Minted. Makes one wonder? Good Luck and HH Chris.

James,

I know alot of older silver and gold coins were melted down over the years. Doubt nickels suffered the same fate.

I might head up your way tomorrow. Pondering getting a cell phone so it will be easier to find you than last year.

Do you carry a cell when you are out detecting.

Chris

Swedish - nice finds! There are a couple old houses under construction in my neighborhood - maybe I'll give them a try too.

Regards, Erik

HEY JAMES, DID YOU GET A SMILE ON YOUR FACE :) WHEN YOU FOUND OUT THAT PLACE HAD ALREADY BEEN HUNTED BY A GREEN DETECTOR.

Old Yards can be very good for the Older Coins. When there is road construction, usually I will detect the boulevard area since this will be getting redone anyways unless the curb and gutter isn't removed. Boulevards are city property, at least around here. Just watch out for some people that will come out of there home and start telling you off. If this happens, just move down to the next house. Good Luck and HH.

Even though the Garrett found some of the oldies, it left a lot for me to find. I believe Stan also found more than what he told me since there was a few plugs in the 2nd yard that had to be coins. Just hope he didn't get any big stuff for silver. I still have to go back and do a thorough search of the yards so I will see if there is anything left to be found. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH on your next outing.

and I usually will take it with me just in case of a breakdown. I will have to find out what the number is on it since the boss never told me what it was. Then you can call me if I am out detecting somewhere and let me know where you are. Hope you stop at a few spots on the way up and make a few good finds. Good Luck and HH Chris.
