A Few Good Finds From Yesterday And Today

Went out and hit a few spots yesterday with my buddy Darren. We didn't get much but I managed a few pieces of lead and a couple wheaties. The stuff was all deep and the tiny bullets amazed me when I finally got to them and saw how small they were. They can be a lot of work!

Here's my stuff from yesterday...

Today I hit an old house that I've hunted before and has been hunted by others. It's very trashy and a lot of iron in the ground. So much so that I decided that I didn't want to listen to it, so I got out of IM -16 for a change and went to a coin pattern and just went real slow. I got a nice 1952 quarter and then a little bit later a 1952 dime. Here are the screenshots of the quarter. How do you like my new control box mod, Bunn? You can be in digital and smartfind at the same time!

Finally, I got this bad boy. It's a half-dollar size medal or badge of some kind, commemorating the 300th anniversary of the landing at Jamestown. I like this one!

Nice finds, where can I go to find settings for my EXII for coins. I'm finding alot but don't have specific settings for coins. Thanks for any help

Well, there are a few different ways to go there. If you are talking about a pattern of discrimination that knocks out everything but coins, that's pretty easy...go into "Menu" and choose "Select" and then using the touchpads, make sure you select "Coins" and knock out with an X the stuff you don't want, like Nails, Screwcaps, Crowncaps, etc. So the result is that you have a Smartfind screen that looks something like the screen shown on the bottom here:

What the bottom screen shows is the Smartfind set up to accept mostly coins. Of course there are trash items that can come in showing up in that accepted range. That's where the tones, the "feel" of the target, and the digital numbers can help. The other way is to forget the discrimination and concentrate on listening to all the signals and digging what sounds good or looks good on the screen. Both the top screen and the bottom screen in the picture above show a 1952 silver quarter. They just show it in a different way. Sometimes I like to hunt in IM -16, which is basically Iron Mask mode with all the iron mask removed, which is essentially "All Metal". And that can be a "busy" mode to hunt in if it's trashy but can let you really open up the machine in an area that is clean enough for you to stand it. Then you can listen to the tones and look at the ferrous/conductive content and specific numbers and decide to dig or not. It's really something you need to develope...the way YOU like to hunt with the Explorer II. I switch it up, depending on the area, what I'm looking for, and how much trash there is.

Take a look at these links here and you will find a few different philosophies on the subject. Try them and see what works for you...that's what I did. Of course if you can get with an experienced Explorer hunter it would be a big help, maybe to get a little one-on-one perspective. Hope that helps.

With the slot at the top, most likely there wasa leather strap hooked to the watch and the fob hung outside the pocket , it was both stylish and functional, the fobs were mostly worn with work clothes,
