Two days ago, I got out to do some detecting in the rain. I know, in the Rain? Well, light rain. The weather was breaking and I just got off work. I had the chance for a couple of hours here in Michigan, so I grabbed my Explorer II and went to a spot that I've been pulling wheat's and old silver. I didn't realize till I got home what I had found. I was cleaning my Wheat Penny's like I always do, when I stopped dead in my tracks. I saw a (190 )and a S right underneath it. Now the cleaning stopped, and the heart Right went up. When I turned it over I couldn't tell for sure, but after it's first bath in olive oil. The VDB was as clear as day. I had it authenticated today and after two days heres the coin. It's truly a find of a lifetime.

I never look at my Wheats untill I get home either. Most of them a guy can't see any date anyway. If they are 10 Inch's or so deep they sure change when they hit the light and fresh air. I like the surprize looking when I get home.

Thanks Everyone, I took it to Redford Jewelry and Coin today here in Michigan to see about getting it slabbed. Dave said for me,let her soak in the olive oil for two more weeks then bring it in and we will take a look at it then. Now here's some information I found out from Dave. Because it's a dug coin and has some green patina on it,the green patina can be cleaned off. If there is any corrosion on the coin at all, the certifying company's that put them in those nice little plastic holders with VG or EF, M-60 etc. won't grade them. They will send them back to you in a nice plastic baggy. Theres only one company you can send them too, I believe he said ACC or something to that affect, out of Ohio. The are just getting settled in Ohio and are not open for business yet. He said, what they do is certify it as genuine and also grade it accordingly. Theres only a little bit of corrosion left on the rim of the coin and he's already given it a grade of extra fine. Dave also said they can clean it with a special cleaner and that they have chemicals that can make it dark again. He said, it would be graded as a cleaned coin and that it just needs a little more time and it would be a nice coin for anyones collection. WOW!! I still can't believe I found a $700+ penny.I always thought my luck would be, that if I found a great coin, it would either be bad condition or I ding the heck out of it. Boy was I wrong.

Sure glad to see that the coin is in great shape and wasn't sitting a low spot so the water and ground conditions were eating away at the coin. Very nice find and wish I could find one of the baby's under my coil! Just remember to enter it in the 2006 most valuable finds in the Treasure Magazine. Wish you Good Luck on the grading and next outing as well!
 
:hot:Awesome find migolddigger! I found one over 20 years ago, and that day still is fresh in my mind. You pull it up, check the date, and then wonder "could I be that lucky"? You turn it ovger with your heart beating faster, and when you see the VBD, and you can't believe your eyes!!! You are right my friend....it's one to be very proud of!
