A FIRST for me today at the ballfield

Ok I have said it a million times that I have NEVER dug a good target with a FE of over 17. I have dug a million of targets 18 and higher only to end up with trash. Well today at the ballfield I got a flash of a 16-46 across my screen, high tone caught my attention, went back over it with quickmask open and it was jumping wildly 22-45, 30-46, 27-45.............well I turned 90 degrees and the same type of numbers. I said to myself what the heck, I have nothing to lose but time :clapping:

well first thing I come to is a LARGE rusty nail....I KNEW it I told myself, ran the coil over the hole just to be sure and HA a nice high tone was still in there, 2 inches under the nail was a merc. I was floored. I have dug a TON of coins from UNDER nails, but never has one read like this. Sure glad I chanced it and dug!

dont give up the iffy signals, I did that about a month ago and came back to the site hit that spot again and dug it, to my surprise it was a 1822 large cent. Im using a old original minelab sovereign with no meter tones only. good luck HH.........

oh trust me, I dig iffy signals EVERYTIME I hunt. I let my partners hear my signals and they walk away saying NOWAY I would dig that! hahahaha. I always go home with a huge pouch of trash, but normally I dig almost everything especially stuff 6" or more in depth

Live and Learn

I have been having some interesting numbers and sounds lately and been digging them

Not as good as yours but sometimes I get a pin or a toy car

It is nice to know that even the ET STARS can keep learning

Congrats on your Merc and your Surprise

I don't pay much attention to FE numbers anymore. I've seen Mercs and pre-64 Quarters jump all over the place from 10-18 FE, but the CO number always stays in the 44-48 range. That's what I focus on, and pulled 8 silver coins in the last 8 days. :)

well like I said I dig these type of signals all the time and this is the FIRST time out of HUNDREDS of targets with a HIGH FE that was actually good. That is why I posted this

Just curious what the cursor was showing? Was it jumping around the screen?

never say never,,,, opps just did :punch:

ever notice how your willingness to dig the iffy-est of targets starts out high at the beginning of the hunt, then dwindles down as the hunt goes on. sometimes its just fun to dig no matter what.....im usually just happy to be digging. ive had holes or very small areas where im pulling all sorts of crap out of the ground, then finally....oooh a penny. i knew it:clapping:

That bouncing would be the key for me to dig it up. If the cursor stays fairly still and consistently in that bottom right hand corner rest assured it's iron.

BUT when it bounces up and down out of there to about halfway up on the screen or higher it's a co-located target and I will dig those everytime. It's trying to read BOTH of the targets and the cursor is showing it by jumping to their respective positions on the screen.

I to totally disreguard the FE numbers and only go by the CO numbers especially if the cursor MATCHES that FE number and is resting in the blacked out area somewhere down low on the screen in your discrimination mode pattern.

IF when you go to pinpoint and the cursor is the same, way down low on the bottom and right hand corner of the screen it's pretty certain to be junk/iron. That is why it's nice to only have to hit one button once to go to a completely open quick mask screen to double check those iffy targets to see what that cursor is showing you. Couldn't do that on the Explorers without hitting 3 times on a button but you can on the Etrac with one push of the quickmask button quick and easy.

It reads targets that are hard or iffy better in the wide open quick mask screen but your better off hunting with some discrimination in the regular screen first then double checking. I find nickles this way easier as they read better with the screen more opened up to me so the numbers ID better when I double check my targets that aren't crystal clear to me while I'm in the discrimination mode screen.

I may have to reevaluate the 48 CO numbers. It seems that I get a rusty screw or bolt every time I dig a 48 CO number, so I have been ignoring 48's lately unless they really sound good. I usually listen for the tone rather than look at the numbers (use numbers as a kind of confirmation). The bolts are more shrill than the silver tone. Maybe I have passed up on some silver. Not to say that I am not digging a lot of silver though.

I am having my best year ever with 19 silver coins so far (best are 41 Walking Liberty, 1918 and 27 SLQ, 1941D Washington, 1903 and 1905O barber dimes, with the rest Merc's and Roosevelt's), 2 silver rings, a WWII Sterling Combat Infantry Badge and a Sterling Hair Beret. Only found 31 total silver coins last year (was lucky to find 2 Walking Liberty Halves and a Franklin in the total).

My regular hunting partner (hunts with a Safari) has me beat on quantity though, he is 4 ahead at 23 so far (he got 4 Friday and 3 Saturday to take the lead). Our competitive nature along with a new hunting method has really increased our numbers this year (he had 62 silver coins last year).

When you have hunted for 6-7 hours straight you get tired of digging everything and bolts aren't any fun. I even skip over shallow copper pennies later in the day.

I am hooked since I am finding so much silver and my wife is very patient as I disappear every weekend during this mild spell and she hasn't curtailed my freedom yet.

Happy Hunting!!

It is funny, I never dig the 50 conductive which has always been Junk
A friend with the ET says that every time he gets a 50 conductive it is Silver

Any Thoughts?
