This is a Roman denari, a silver coin. Based on it's color, the silver is not pure ... but a devalued silver. The red tint you see is silver oxide and dirt. The coin is about the size of a dime but about twice or three times as thick. Haven't yet been able to ID the Emperor or age of the coin.
