A G2 question

I have been reading where folks are cranking the G2 to near max or at max sensitivity settings and are able to still run a stable detector that seems to be hot on small low conductors.

But...how is the sensitivity to small low conductors if you don't max it out? What if you are only running mid levels or low levels of sensitivity. Is it still hot on small low conductors?

Low conductors will respond with the Sensitivity/Gain reduced, but, as one might figure, if it is reduced too much the depth and detection ability will also drop off a bit. It's not like it just vanishes if you reduce the Sensitivity/Gain level, and it preforms much like the F5 or Omega and such when adjust very low to very high.

What impresses me is that almost everywhere I have worked the G2 so far, mainly with the 5" for the trashy conditions I look for but also with the 11' on the beach or open areas, I can operate at maximum level w/o noise and chatter. It's just impressive in that respect. I think you need to check one out. It's not as deep as my T2 or some other models, especially on the higher-conductive targets (silver dollars or quarters and such), but it plucks nickels and gold jewelry and buttons and similar lower-conductive targets quite well, even in some junky sites. I'm not saying it's a wimp, but it performs well for its design and operating frequency. Match the coil for the task and it's great!

Have you hunted any ground conditions that required you to back off the sensitivity settings? Could you share your FE meter readings?

Could I also ask a favor? Could you compare the F5 FE meter results with the G2 FE meter results. I know the G2 uses an expanded scale but I'd like to see what a maxed out FE meter on the F5 corresponds to on the G2.
......or maybe I could compare the operator manual definitions....

I'll compare the Ferrous readings on several models, but I know the G2 does register higher than others I used so far, but that wasn't something I took note of. I'm usually in bad ground anyway, but I'll check it out. Nice enough weather today for some hunting so I'll compare.

Mike it is way sensitive to small low conductors just made a post you can see the small stuff I dug this morning. As far as running it at lower gain I have not tried that yet only had it for a a few days and have seen no reason to cut it down unless you would want to get rid of some of the tiny stuff. Ran it yesterday day right by a electric cattle fence that I have had problems with other detectors and it ran very quite.

My ground mineralization starts to mask out the small low conductors at higher gain settings. Max gain settings work fine in the woodchips but not so well for me in the ground. I have to balance between target size/depth and gain settings. Hence my questions about lower gain settings and FE meter readings.
