A heart breaker kind of hunt!:teknetics:

After the rain and honey do list (almost) done, I headed to the woods for an afternoon stroll with the Omega and 10" concentric coil on. Wasn't finding much and was working my way back to my vehicle a few yards off a road when I snagged 2 wheat cents back to back. Slowed down a bit and a few minutes later got a faint kind of high tone whiff that would kind of click at the end of the sweep. Couldn't get it to come across any better so decided to dig. Pin pointed and the depth was showing 7." After removing a couple good scoops of dirt I finally found the target with the Pro pinpointer still in the hole. One more scoop got the target out and using the Pro again finally found what appeared to be a cut coin. Gave it a gentle rub and saw the head of someone. Yep, I did a quick jig thinking I had recovered a cut Reale. Got home and after closer inspection realized I had a cut British six pence. And, of course, the date is on the other half. Still kind of a neat piece of silver, but I must admit to being a bit disappointed. Heck, a whole lot disappointed. The 2 wheat cents were 1910 and 1946. Running 99 sen, 1 disc and d3 tones. I am now off to ring out my hankie. HH jim tn

Jim, stop this tomfoolry of crying into your hankie, just get back out there and dig up the other half....you will know when you have hit the right place, the signal will only be half-good. I'm sure many of us have had days like that, i.e. ruining in some way what would have been a beaut coin or whatever. Of course, you have the comfort of knowing that although you only got one half, the whole lot would be valueless now (am I making you feel better?) You do a great job, wherever you go detecting, and set a very high bar for the rest of us to reach. Pete.

Some were cut/clipped as payment for items. leaving the other half with owner to make more purchases with the other half...... ????????????????

A large percentage of silver coins were cut. It's just the way it was.

You have no basis for disappointment. It's an awesome find.

Thanks guys. My Eagle Breast Plate find yesterday with my LTD got me back to smiling. I am, though, going to start carrying my "cheater" glasses with me on hunts so I won't got so disappointed and worn out next time. Doing the happy dance just takes to much out of me. You guys are great! HH jim tn

Can't be too disappointed with a nice Queen Victoria Sixpence, even if there is only half. Makes you wonder what it was doing in your neck of the woods.

That is one of the interesting parts of this hobby wondering who, what, how and why, about many of our finds. Queen Victoria reigned from 1837 to 1901. HH jim tn
