A LITTLE HELP!

OK Iam reading andy;s book and i am not done yet but i have owned 2 xterra's so its a little new to me but i am a fast learner, can you guys tell me where to start besides in my coin garden, what are typical settings for good soil looking for coins general settings,or do i just run minelabs coin hunt settings? thanks for the input

If you've been using the X-Terra in the multiple tone mode, you should have a relatively easy transition to the Etrac. Everyone has their preferences for settings, based on the targets they are after and the sites they hunt. And the stock programs will work well for many. But in my moderate soil conditions, looking for old coins at old farmsites, a couple parks and some private yards, I run mine in a modified coin program with a few adjustments. I lower my threshold to a barely audible tone, raise the Volume Gain to 28, raised the Variability to 29, set fast ON, Trash density to high and Ground to difficult. I mostly hunt in auto sensitivity and sometimes bump it up or down a peg or two, depending on how close the targets are. I also modified my Quick Mask program by rejecting 4 horizontal bars on the ferrous and 3 vertical bars on the conductive. I find that the Quick Mask takes a lot of guess work out of those "iffy" targets. Like I said, everyone has their preferences. This is what I've found to work well for me....... so far! The best advice I can give you is to read and understand how each setting effects the operation of the Etrac. Once you understand what makes this thing tick, you'll be able to tweak yours to match your style of hunting and your sites. JMHO HH Randy

I agree with Digger but would suggest starting out in stock program until you get very used to the machine, I know guys who find DEEP coins in stock coin and even high trash mode, dont rush into changing a bunch of setting and making it difficult.

Digger- I run almost the same settings as you but find I often have to change my variability to much lower numbers, seems with the Variability set that high, sometimes iron will read to good, sometimes I run it much lower and machine still seems to do great.

I have my gain on 20 that way the deeper signals sound a little weaker. I have found over 20.00 in silver this year mainly using the minelab coin program. Love the et. Just bought a fisher f75 ltd. Hard to put the et down like yesterday found three silver dimes in one hole. By

Thanks for the tip on Variability. I know I've dug more old, bent, square nails with the Etrac than any other detector I've ever used. Well, except for some of the Fishers. With the Etrac, I can usually discern nails with slow, methodical sweeps in the Quick Mask mode. But I like to hunt by ear. And if lowering the Variability will help separate iron from silver audibly, I'm all for it! Thanks again. HH Randy
