Hello,i stopped by an on home site a couple days ago for about 30 minutes and found 3 clad pennies and a 1923f buffalo nickel
(a first for me:thumbup:)pics to come,i tried to look it up in my 2009 Red Book and all i could find was the 1923 and the 1923s and i would like to know what the f is for and if its rare and why there is info on it in the book, thanks and H.H. to everyone, Kevin
 
I looked this up in my Red Book the professional edition and it says that the buffalo nickel was designed by James Earle Fraser, a sculptor wellknown in the private sector, was its creator.The mintmark position is below FIVE CENTS. The mints were Philadelphia, Denver, San Fransisco. The designers initial is normally below the date. Some dies existed with partially missing initial or weak initial; these do not command the premium of the variety with a completely missing initial. I hope this helps. Jack
 
Thanks for the info Jack,i just looked at it again and i see the mint mark which is an s and i guess that makes it more valuable
as there were only 6,124,000 made and its in real good shape,thanks again i appreciate the help:thumbup: H.H. Kevin
 
I love Buffalo nickels. As you know, there's no "F" mint mark. Good going on the find! I bet there's more nice coins there. HH, Nancy

Oh, how I know too well. Been there, done that! We all have those moments, but I still like those Buffalo nickels. Nice find!!!! Nancy
