A little more like it! :fisher: F 75 DST

I say a little more like it from the standpoint that fewer targets got dug this morning, but a few goodies in the bunch as well.

My buddy and I had been working a spot that in four hunts yielded us right around 600 clad and Memorials along with 29-30 wheat cents and 3 silver rings. Not one silver coin to be had. I put the call into Mudpuppy last night to hightail it down here and help us out with the clad situation. My buddy and I aren't accustomed to digging that many coins each outing.

Anyway, hit our old fairgrounds this morning having left it alone for a while and the old rascal yielded me several old coins and some clad and cents. As you can see from the pictures and from some others I have posted that this site is not kind to coins. Lots of decaying iron, broken asphalt and varying types of ground. If you can find a clean spot ground balances can run from the low 60 up near 80.

Was picking off a Memorial and a piece of clad here and then when I ran into my 1st of the 2 wheaties I got. I slowed way down and started working a grid in all directions out from the 1st wheat cent. All in all, in so doing, I ended up with a 17 Merc, a 1902 V nickel, a 1924 Buffalo and a 45d war nickel. The 2 wheat cents were 194? and 57. Everything was in the 2 to 5" depth range and I had on the 5" coil running in de mode and a modest 75 sen. HH jim tn

6 good coins in a detecting venture is good in my opinion..6 good out of 23 coins is excellent.

Thanks, bud. Got back on some knowingly old ground. This spot can be hit and miss, but can hit some goodies from time to time. Stay warm and dry. HH jim tn

That's my kind of hunting, quality over quantity is what I'm looking for. These "old" sites are getting tougher but with a little extra effort like slow swing speed and removing some masking objects we'll still find some silver.

Way to go on those goodies Jim! :clapping:

I miss hunting those fairgrounds - seems like once you found an old coin you could better zero in on more older ones in the immediate area - hope to get down that way next month for a day or so...

Most excellent. Clad adds up. I have found good stuff at fair grounds.
