A Midget's Egg Cup & A Cool Red Lens

Erik in NJ

New member
A couple more of the interesting relics from the old homestead yesterday. The first looks like a tiny little egg cup (for a "little person" - sorry didn't mean to offend any midgets out there :yikes:) - it's solid, concave at the tip, tapered then flared out with a flat base with a hole in the dead center of the base (hole is approx. 3/8" deep)....copper or brass and has some heft.

The other item has a beautiful facetted red lens made of heavy glass - looking at it with a loupe the glass appears to be somewhat primitive, mounted in a bezel that is quite corroded - didn't dare try to clean it with a brass brush, and four little square mounting tabs protruding from the bezel. Could it have been a lens from a lantern of some sort?

The red glass object reminds me of a bridle rosette. Is there any kind of hoop on the back or the spots where they broke off. The old timers used to put rosettes on the bridle of their horses and some times the reins.
