Borrowed my Dad's F-5 last weekend, and I talked a war college buddy of mine into trying out MD...he'd never done it before but was curious. So I set the disc to nil and handed him the F5 and pointed him to an old tree in the park. Figured he'd go through and clean out all the trash, then I'd sweep in behind him with the ol' Whites and cherry pick the coins.

After one hour, our tally was:

Me: 12 pull tabs, a piece of foil, and 6 zinc pennies.
Him: A 1916 wheatie and a 1908 V Nickel!

Now I can't get the damned F5 back from him! Serves me right, I suppose...

We went back to the same part of the park this morning...maybe it wasn't the machine afterall...got an iffy signal at 5" (didn't think the ol' Whites could get there anymore)...popped out an 1886 IH...not sure if it's a Type-1 or 2...reverse is pretty corroded.

Funny thing, though...now out of the hole, the machine barely registers this coin in air tests...is that normal...for something to produce a signal in the ground better than on top of it? I did re-check the hole...but nothing.

"His" F5, as he now refers to it, only turned up 3 memorials.
