A New Self

Read Ephesians 4:23, 24. What does Paul mean by 'putting on' the new self? What is the nature of this new self? "to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

People like to try new looks: changing hairstyle, buying new types of clothes, even getting a face-lift or hair transplant. But these changes will bring only minor variations inside. The basic self will remain unchanged. Paul talks about a new self, related not to appearance but to attitude and mental nature. He says that we are 'created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness'.

Outline the attitudes and behaviors coming out of the new self. Eph. 4:25-32. "Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

The new self referred to by Paul exhibits successful fruits (truthfulness, unity, honesty, diligence, wholesome talk, kindness, forgiveness). Notice, too, that all of the new self

Wealth and beauty will let us down sooner or later ( I will not have to worry about either one. LOL) True love and kindness will not! On my way to work this morning I was listening to KLOVE and heard a story told that I thought was a good reminder. A couple were traveling out of the country and had been away from home for over two weeks. They came home to find their fridge stocked with a few things to get them thru before they could get to the grocery-milk, butter, eggs, etc. Out of date items had been cleared away and did not have to be dealt with. A best friend had thought of a way to bless her friends while they were gone. How awesome is that? Doing something nice needn't be something huge-or costly!

I have helped others by shoveling the white stuff of their driveway and in return others do the same for me now....blessings return in many ways and folds! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty
