A Place To Try

I Can Dig It

New member
Hello all,
I just stumbled across this forum and thought I would drop in for a minute. I am from Peoria. I grew up there but left to join the Air Force in 1964. I am retired military and just don't get home all that often, to be honest I only come home for funerals :-( I now live in Washington State. I just wanted to pass something on to you all. I am not sure how many people know this but at the top of Wayne Street Hill might be a good place to hunt IF YOU CAN STILL GET IN THERE. There was a battle there between the Calvary and local Indians way back when..at least that is what I was taught in grade school. I remember going up there as a young boy looking for arrow heads and there were plenty so I assume there may be some Calvary artifacts as well...
Also if Webster School is still there close to the corner of Millman and MacArthur around the outskirts of the playground would yield some old coins assuming no one has picked it over the years.. I was there 4 years ago and the playground that I used to play on at recess is still as it was when I was in the fourth grade. I got to tell you however that the area is not as nice as it was when I grew up there but it might be worth your trouble.
I buried a treasure under a pear tree in our back yard there on Millman when I was 8 years old. I remember there were a lot of coins and a couple of cast cars I put it all in a tin box and buried them. When I was there four years ago I stopped by that house, introduced myself, explained how I grew up there and before I could tell him what I wanted to retrieve I was confronted with loud racial slurs and the gentleman going after what I thought was a gun..so I split. It would have been cool to retrieve that box as it was buried in 1954...that tree is still in the back yard and my treasure as well.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the tip Carl.

Too bad a grump lives in your old home now. That would have been awesome to retrieve. Thanks for the tips, which are always welcome. Have been on Wayne but haven't retrieved anything military...yet anyway. Will have to try harder, eh?
