A Pround Loot Recycler :bouncy: Went To The Bank Today

I love treasure hunting of all types, but my favorite is coin hunting. I also get a lot of other peoples favorites, such as rings and silver coins, searching for common coins. My final tally isn't finished yet, but so far the trip to the bank made me smile.

I spent most of yesterday rolling coins. My penny count from this past year was 104 rolls x 50 cents = (5,200 pennies) $52.00. Of course, that + my nickels went towards my annual gold coin. The price of gold has shot up so much that these pennies just won't buy a gold coin any more.

I still have a week of vacation and hunting to do. After that, it's tally time.

WOW that's a Lotta Penny's John good job. how did ya go about cleaning all that loot also did you clean in one big lot or through out the year in small lots ?? just interested in knowing.

I have a double barrel rock tumbler. I already had my pennies soaking in water for a couple of days.........

I spend a couple months each winter going threw bank rolls and trading my clad coins for silver ones, missed by the banks when they roll their coins, I found 42 silver dimes, 3 silver quarters, and 2 war nickles, last year, I like trading dug clad coinage for silver, it's like digging it all over again, the remainder of my clad is cashed in, sometimes I'll buy coins with it, and also purchase batteries, when there on sale or have rebates on them, so I'm ready to go in the spring, thought this might help some of you to pass the winter months, digging all over again.

Im assuming you mean "coin roll hunting" here? This is a great idea - I never thought of that! I;ve gone throught some roll sin the past, but never with any real purpose. Thanks to you, I now have one...

These are the results of the coin roll searches? That sounds about right - dimes seem to be more common. I've fencountered cash registers with an entire till of silver dimes. I buy them all, on the spot. You can tell them by their tone... plus, I lean over the counter and look. Which, in turn, gets me some odd looks. :)

I don't believe banks sort the silver out, per se, as there is little reason for them to expend the resources to do so. There are very few silver coins these days, so it wouldn't be really profitable to do so. They don't look at them as we so - to them. they are only an asset, or not. Since clad and silver coins weigh the same and are electrically alike, any sorting must be done by hand.
I can tell you this - there is one place at a bank the silver coins do get removed from circulation - at the teller window. There isn't a bank teller worth the name that doesn't know what's up, with his or her own little silver stash!

The remainder of my clad is cashed in...
These are the coins remaining from the rolled coinage? Very cool, very cool indeed. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah a lot of the guys coin roll hunt. Steve done a lot of it and I think John does also. I've tried to get rolls of halves at my bank but they never have any. Steve was always buying rolls of halves and finding silver. The banks don't mes with checking for them

Bill

Bill, if you go to your bank, ask them if they can order them from the fed, most banks can, also if they charge for this, some do, which makes it non-profitable, but if they don't charge you, then order some, $500-$1000 at a time, I done this last winter, also, found 103, 90% silver halves, and 344, 40% silver, also take them back to other banks to cash them in, as some banks don't like taking them back after you order them, depends on your bank, hope this helps you do some roll hunting.

Dahut, I just trade my dug clad for silver, and return those rolls to the bank, for some more rolls, when I've went threw all the rolls the banks halve on hand, I cash in those rolls, to recover what I originally bought, then take the remainder of my own dug clad and purchase what I want, plus in the winter, before christmas, a lot of battery co.'s, have specials on, some with rebates, then the rebate checks I cash and put back in with my found money for future use.

Nice looking hat and paper.
Fruits of your labour:thumbup:
