A question came to mind (before my first cup of coffee) about heat...

Pete in MI

New member
got me thinking -still no coffee yet. My question, and knowing God knew what He was doing when He created everything, was why does heat rise...why not fall? I got thinking of the heat trapped near the ceiling of the house and yet our feet are cold. I thought too of being bald and how all the heat escapes from the top of the head.

I had to ask Why?

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Here is the answer I got. Imagine heat not rising but going down. The ground would always be hot. The sun's heat not reflecting off the earth but it would stay at ground level. The ground would become hard...very hard...hard enough we would not be able to metal detect (though nothing would sink into the ground).

The pavement we drive on would burn our feet and tires. We could never walk on a beach to get to the water. The water also would be too hot to sustain life. No food would grow. So that is just a few reasons why heat rises.

Thank you Father for the explanation. I had never thought of that before. Thank you Jesus and thank you too Holy Spirit.

Now onto my coffee.

Goodmorning, Pete,

What a beautiful, inspiring message to greet this morning.....before my coffee too!

Thank you so much for your post.Great way to start the day!

am I going to do a companion piece about why cold air falls to the earth. No I said but I would say it would help cool the earth. We have cold that falls in the form of snow and rain which help cool the earth and to give water to plants (and soften the ground for metal detecting), the steam rising off water is pretty too. :)

That is deep stuff this early1 :)

yet it is one of those so simple things that a 5th grader would know....am I smarter than a 5th grader...I don't think so Pete

Hey, Pete...you are very smart. answer this for me , please;

Why doesn't the sun come out at night ..when it is so dark ; that's when we need the sun .

You can have the sun 24/7...you just have to stay in it as it travels around the world...but you have to be ABOVE the clouds - so soar like an eagle

I think they call those things that stay above the clouds, remain in the sun....either satellites or moons.

Hot air does. Heat mostly just effects other things. Hot air rises, because the "air", when it gets hot, wants to get away from each other. So it expands, and therefore rises. That is kind of simplistic, but the essence of the issue. The opposite works with cold. It contracts and wants to huddle togather, therefore making it more dense and causing it to sink. I like all your other explanations though!!! :)

J.

ps. I hope you enjoyed your coffee!

they huddle
