Hi everyone,
Back at my favorite park again, I started to continue my grid work where I left off on Sunday. I knew I would have limited time before the rain forced my retreat. About 8' into my first section I got a mixed signal-- a nice tone mixed with the slur of a telltale iron target. The display was occasionally showing a 12-44/45 mixed with a whole mess of other numbers as I swept the suspect area. I could only get the "good" tone from one direction-- turning 90 degrees didn't produce anything but a pure iron response. Pinpointing gave me a "larger than coin size" response, but I figured it was some iron object bleeding into the ground creating a larger response (and mask). Digging down 6", I found the iron chunk (shown in the picture below) and figured "that was that". Re-sweeping the area, I now get a nice clean sounding 12-44/45, but again from only one direction. Pinpointing gives me a coin size response about 4" from where I dug the iron chunk and showing 6" deep. Based on my past 3 week history with this park, I'm thinkin' "sweet, I think I may have another silver". I dig a 4" plug and test with the X-1-- sure enough, a solid 12-44 in the bottom right corner of the hole. I pull another 4" plug, along side the first, test again and now she's dead center in the hole. Two more inches of plug and I see the reeded edge of a coin coming vertically out the bottom of the plug. Turns out to be another nice 1944-S Merc (just like last Friday at a different park). This baby was standing straight-up vertical in the ground which is why I was only getting a good signal (back & forth) from one direction. THIS E-TRAC IS AMAZING!!! It really does a great job of sniffing out the good from the bad. I'm lovin' it!
Shortly after, the rain decided I had had enough fun and forced my retreat. That's ok, I retreated with a Merc in my pocket and a smile on my face.
