A sampling of my friend Donnie's art.....

I mention detecting with my buddy Donnie quite a bit, but aside from detecting he also carves decoys and shorebirds. He even won the World Carving title for a duck decoy in the past. He gave me and Sommer a nice gunning merganser for my wedding and an antiqued sandpiper for the heck of it. He mentioned how much he liked the War of 1812 buttons and other military buttons I found so I gave them to him and he asked me if I wanted a decoy or 2 shorebirds. Well I got the Semi-Palmated Plover last time we detected and he is going to make me a Kildeer as well. I always admired his artwork which was sold at a local shop. It was quite a day when I met my friend for the first time and saw all his other birds and carvings. ....And guess how we met, through metal detecting :) Donnie airbrushes then paints each line one by one. (I won't do injustice to the process) Either way he puts some time into the birds and parts with them for a fraction of what I felt they were worth. I didn't have the money, but I did have some old buttons and we did a little friendly bartering. I even got to see those old buttons last time I was down and they look far better in his nice display than they did in my old cigar box. Life is great and it sure is nice spending it with friends.

... taste like chicken!

Donny's a great artist and some call him Duck Stevens but when detecting he's just called "1/2 Dollar Don", He always seems to
find walking Liberty 1/2s

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride:crazy:
I am heading up to Plattsburgh tomorrow and may slip out in the A.M to try for some more military buttons. Have a good one and happy hunting!
