A Serious Post w/Prayer Request

I know I tend to talk a lot and sometimes it takes a bit of reading! But this is worth reading and checking out another post on the Garrett forum.
Folks, be careful out there as this is a dangerous world. Take precautions when out detecting. Always have a cell phone, even if you cannot afford an expensive cell plan buy a trac fone, or even just carry an old one with a charge as 911 usually will still work. Worst case is you could pretend your talking to police. None of us are immuned to danger, even Christians suffer things in this world as were not in heaven yet! Choose your locations and times carefully and when possible bring a friend! Be discreet when seeing that gold, silver etc. and especially pay attention when using headphones. I personally would not hunt without headphones as obviously everyone around will hear that signal without them and maybe attract the wrong kind of attention! Some of you may be thinking hey this "newby" is telling us how to detect! I am new, but I have been around the block on more than one occasion and have experience with safety issues regarding children. Read "cwik's post on the Garrett forum, Sunday (Long and winding post warning.)
And most importantly, pray for cwik that the Lord will watch over and protect him!

a reminder is always timely...God may have put that message on your heart to share to save someone else..never know. I'm thinking you have grown beyond 'newbie' since you are sharing wisdom that a newbie would not have.

I get long winded sometimes too so don't worry about that. Sure is good to see your finds. You're doing well indeed. Keep at it.

Thanks Tim for the post and link

I had an experience this past January where , while I was detecting ( with friends near-by) ..as we went back to our vehicles, ( my friends' vehicle was parked directly behind mine.)...I said "goodbye" to them..they drove off; I got into my car and was shocked when I saw the passenger side window smashed to pieces ..and a cross hanging from my rear view mirror was missing

This was a definite "smash and grab"...nothing else was taken; I was frightened initially , and then angry as I drove home freezing with no passenger side window...and also the inconvenience this caused me ( insurance covered the cost) but my time for using the car was put "on hold"

the irony of this experience is that the cross that was stolen was a cross ( sterling silver) that I had found at that very same beach the summer before .

I don't know how I could have prevented what had happened.. I suppose we should not have gone detecting in the winter at a beach that was not heavily attended...our vehicles were parked quite a way from where we were detecting ..as we steadily moved up the beach focused on detecting.
Well,. that's my tale of woe..Everyone....please be cautious..I learned the hard way.

This is probably a good place to share these experiences as you did Magyar. It will help all of us new and seasoned alike. I feel so bad for "cwik", that was a no win situation!

I just read CWIK's story.

That is scary!

I will pray for his safety and the safety of all detectorists hunting either alone or with others so that all will be under God's protection while enjoying the fun that He has allowed us to experience in His beautiful world.

AMEN!

Thanks for the reminder!

the older stuff....the older parks are too dangerous for a woman alone and my friends have gotten older or have died! I just detected closer to home where I knew or thought the areas were safer for detecting by myself! My brother, Cliff, could go with me now, but with our health problems both the cold and hot weather affect our breathing! Too soon old after detecting became my hobby! My ex and I began in summer of 1980 and joined the detecting club in July, 1981! Had some really good times and some good finds and won some nice prizes...but alas those days are over for me!

God Bless & Happy Hunting with safety for all!
