Just a quick ? about the GTI1500 i read a lot about
targets hitting at 5 or 7 etc What does that refer to?
is it the same numbers that indicate depth in pinpoint??

a small question but one I think getting
answered may help me

Thanks again as usual

Chris

There are silly questions. This was not one of them.

or the discriminations #S right??

These are the notch numbers Ron, just like Chris said.
In other words...8 = 1 cent......9.5 = quarter......12 = $1 coin......like that
You'll get er down, just keep asking questions.
You sure picked a nice detector in the GTI1500, that I can say for sure.
Good hunting to you Ron ! Gene

If at first you don't succeed try to look surprised.

Thanks for the info and encouragement!!
I have all winter to learn ....

Safe happy hunting

It'll all come to you. The 1500 has a bit of a learning curve and like I used to tell them when I ran the Garrett Classroom - that the GTI's are not like other detectors and if you try to use one like you used another brand you will have problems. But once you get the hang of it you'll never want to part with it. I've got about every model that Garrett makes and the 1500 is my favorite.

Certainly good advice Bill. What I would do over the Winter is to go back over
past posts about the GTI and write down things you would like to try out.
Work on one thing at a time and you wont be overwhelmed. You may pick up
new ideas and things you would like to try out right here. If you do be sure and
give it a good trial before you say it will work for you or not. This is especially
true when you are trying to learn a new detector. Everyones ground and hunting
conditions will vary, not to mention the actual detector settings. Use what works
for you and your detector in your ground. If something is giving you somewhat of
a problem, pinpointing for instance, keep practicing until you get it down pat.
It will all come together one step at a time. Your have a great detector that will
get the job done. There is no doubt about that. When I try to learn a new detector
it can be a challenge learning new things. At the beginning the detector will be
smarter than I am. After awhile you will learn what your detector is saying and be
able to call a lot of the targets even before you dig them up. Now you are in control.
You have the right attitude and I have no doubt you will do well. If it were easy everyone
would be doing this. Let's just hope that all those that tried to detect a time or two and
ended up putting their detector in the closet permanently don't bring them out again. It will
be standing room only then. Would hold my breath on that one though.
This is just my personal opinion and how I would go about it.
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Thanks for the info and advise Gene It is always
much appreciated. As ive mentioned the local club i joined
isnt all that active unless its a planned hunt.. so its tuff
getting local help

Someday maybe ill be the one giving advise instead of asking

Till then

Sometime it's easier and a lot quicker to ask your questions right here Ron.
There are a lot of experienced GTI users that will be more than happy
to answer your questions. I don't have a GTI myself but will throw in my
opinions where I can. Once you start to really get accustomed to your
GTI1500 you will wonder how you had so many questions. And yes, I
believe in the not too distant future you just might be giving advice to
other GTI1500 users that have questions like you are experiencing
right now. As always, I wish you the very best hunting ! Gene

Yeah there is this myth that detectors are universal and work exactly the same everywhere. If that were true manufacturers wouldn't send their machines all over the world to be field tested. That's like the age old question, " How deep will it go." That depends on the user, coil size, what part of the world you live in, and the ground conditions there. It's a question that has no factual answer.

Bill

Thnaks for the input You mentioned you had done a review of the
GTI15000 tell me where i cna find it and ill print it out
that should help a lot

tks

Good answer Bill. I have heard people ask "how deep will it go"
since I was a young guy. Many, many years ago......
