A SILVER DENARIUS

New member
Yesterday September 18th My T2 triumphed again .But thanks to a heavy rain shower !! I had been searching for less than half an hour with rain threatening. I had found two Copper Alloy coins of the British Emperor Carausius although in poor condition. The rain cloud came closer so I turned towards my car only a hundred yards away in a few yards the Denarius shown of Vespasian A.D.69 to 79 was found The reverse shows his sons Domitian & Titus seated on chairs. Because I stopped I became rather wet.

Sweet!!!!!! It raises the question of just how much Roman activity was there then. How amazing to find traces two thousand years after someone had a pocket failure or opened an impromptu bank account!
WTG!

The Roman society was a full monetary one. the places where we find most of the goodies are from nice dirty settlements ! They did not have the posh floors as in Villas but beaten earth or chalk with rushes or ferns laid over it. So any coins that were dropped were lost in that material.Spring time out it went plus the coins etc with it. Another source is a Temple site where people scattered coins brooches rings etc to the Gods I have searched on both no doubt you have seen some of my finds on the forum[pre]
