A silver pocket find to get me through the Winter !!!

Ed (Upstate NY)

Active member
Six weeks has passed since the ground froze solid here in Upstate New York. Two feet of snow on the ground with more on the way so I'm already in deep depression over not being able to do any coin shooting. When emptying my pockets yesterday, I saw a dark, worn Jefferson nickel and thought " Could it be a silver war nickel ?" Sure enough, on closer inspection it was a 1943-P. The detecting Gods smiled on me and gave me a little bonus to get me through the Winter. Hopefully only about 10 more weeks until the Spring thaw !!!

Haha, its always fun to find those. I remember when I found a 1939-D nickel in my change, which happened to be a semi key date.

Very nice pocket find. I still see them in nickel rolls once in a great, great while. One of the girls who works at Subway in town knew I collected, and wanted me to identify a nickel she found when she cracked a roll at work. It was a 1902 V Nickel....you never see those. She did'nt believe me, nor would she sell it to me when I told her it was only worth $2. Hey...that's still 40 times face value ! Eh...give it to your future heirs (grandkids) or something..

Is'nt that unreal? Gone are the days of Morgan dollars for ten bucks..
