A Wader's Lament....FT only seems interested in designing detectors for relic hunting.

In looking at the new offerings offered by FT under the Fisher there is a continued group think that no disc range, and therefore no notch range above zinc is needed. If they had taken the time to look at what some of their competitors are offering, and speak to detector buyers that are not relic hunters, I feel they would have been better served in planning the latest releases.

For wading & beach hunting where gold jewelry is the main target, being able to notch out high conductors is a boon. On newer beaches having to listen to clad signals is simply annoying, as it is a total waste of time having to dig it up. Also at times when you only have a short period to hunt you want to set the detector up to only hear low conductors. And in older areas, wading where old docks have rotted into the water, there are nails, bolts, & steel flat washers. The steel flat washers are a particular problem as they iron wrap into the high conductor range. In many of these areas I hunt there are several per sq/ft, making searching for silver a futile attempt. But with decent notching the gold & nickels can be pulled out.

In the recent past, the ID Edge with input from Bill Ladd has turned out to be the only real ID wader friendly detector under the Fisher brand. It was the best notching detector Fisher produced, plus chest mountable with long flexible coil cables. The 6 inch concentric coil opened up a lot of iron infested areas! I keep hearing that it is to be discontinued which will leave no ID wader friendly detectors under the Fisher brand. One would think that with the recent spurt by FT of pushing out new models under the Fisher & Tek brands, that some where along the line, in some product planning meeting that the words "wading" or "beach" would be uttered. So for now I have no impetus to purchase a Fisher brand detector because their focus seems to be elsewhere.

***quasi--By using a combination of Disc & several Preset notch patterns, decent wading setups can be achieved.

***coarse--The notch patterns are very broad but usable.

***granular--This is a segment type disc system without the resolution of a continuously variable knob, but notch resolution comparatively is very precise.

He's in the field where it counts but look like the new fishers is trying to go in a new direction with new people and maybe Dankowski and Bill being associated with the old machines and they want to get away from them?????? Some other detector comapny should pick them up--
May be they think the Cz21 was all they need to do for water hunters????????????????????????????

I pushed really hard to have a long cord and since it was the same housing as the 1236x-2, NOT to screw the box to the rod like the Excel, but to leave the hipmount slider. I sold them on the fact that this would lead to some "wader" purchases, and it did. Not 1000, but some at least....
Los Banos Fisher sent me at least 2-3 Edge proto's. I would tell them what I liked & what I hated & why. Suggested changes, and they listened. Not to everything, but they changed what they could. This back & forth type design procedure led to a pretty nice detector as the first one was too much like an Excel. I said best bang for the mid-priced buck at the time........

That was very good advice Bill. I had an excel that i wished was hipmountable and had an optional small coil.

May FT listen to you, Cheers...

i agree!..bill is "in the field" where it counts, and he pretty much reflects what we would all like to see in a detector!..he's a farm field, park, and private yard hunter like the rest of us!..he KNOWS what we are clamoring for in a dectector!

that allowed us all to have some input on the Edge. Fisher listened on that one. Now, if only FT would do the same.

What I would like to see is something on the order of a T2 performance wise but with a more analog type interface and yes, HIP MOUNTABLE! Coins/Relics and shallow wading... Oh Yeah!!!

If they won't build a dedicated fresh water wader then at least give us the next best thing... Please!!

Looks like the X70 does all you need, as if it were designed for you.
I would be very, very happy as opposed to expecting a company to be a Burger King so I could have it my way.

Your need is met. I would naturally conclude from your chart that you have a machine that does what you want. Why on earth would your future-proof ML be a concern of Fisher? Or the chart ( somebody has way too much time on their hands and needs another Florida vacation)?!

There is a way to get what you want from a Fisher here at Findmall.

BB, I can understand your angst but if wanting could deliver,.... we would have the last machine ever wanted that was deep and 100% accurate on target ID. Room for improvement is what I call proving a future. Your X70 is still new and there are oodles of charts you can make for it. In a few years when you are ready for the next best thing consider the purchase of a Fisher ( like an old F75) hh. I think I saw where Randy/Digger is waiting for his F70.
The chart says stick with the ML.
Be happy.

It is that and ALOT more as you can see from my post it just works,
schools, parks, relics, wading.........bad move if FIRST TEXAS quits making it and keeps the excel.....
