After my first real year of dedicated metal detecting - I understand exactly what you are talking about. Iowa is cold too. Some folks are buying rolls of coins from the local banks to search for rare coins. However - I don't see how anything can beat that strong detector signal and digging for unknown treasure. Even if it's a worthless deteriorated penny, the excitement is like no other. I know this sounds sick - but it's true. Since we cant go out in the foot high (or probably more up your way) snow, now would be a good time to research future dig locations - or even better - reading and studying our bibles. The Sun and spring will be back soon. Keep the faith.
