I put in six early morning hunts with the Omega this week, each hunt averaging about 3 1/2 hours, and the more I use this detector the more impressed with it I become. No, it's not the deepest detector I own or have owned, but it's cost, even with three coils, is quite a bit less, too. On deep coins I wouldn't mind having a bit more audio, but it does make me listen more carefully for those whispers.
Over all, beside some clad, I dug several wheats, 4 older buttons, a couple of junk rings and 3 silver coins. 2 50's Rosies and 1 57 Washington quarter. All, from an old park I have hunted pretty hard myself.
A good bit of my hunting was done with the small 5" coil and 2 of the silvers came with it. The quarter, as I've mentioned, was very close to a brass drawer handle. The dime came from the grass strip between the sidewalk and gutter. It was about 4" deep right on the edge of the sidewalk and totally on edge. With the 5" coil I was running 1 disc., 99 sen. and d4 tones. The gb with the small coil was in the mid 50's.
The other dime came this morning and I was using the 10" cencentric. I was hunting almost right under some power lines that have always caused emi problems with my other detectors. Although I did have to cut sen. down to 80 with the Omega until I had hunted my way out from the power lines about 25 feet or so, I was then able to crank the sen. back up to 99 and I was at 1 disc. and 3d tones. My gb with the 10" coil moved up to the low to mid 60's, about where my F 75 and F 75 LTD gb's with the 11" dd on this site. The dime was also about 4" deep and sounded good with 80 sen.
The Omega really is outstanding in the trash. I've dug numerous targets when I would get a mid tone and high very close together. In these instances, if the high tone repeats on the same spot, dig it. It is going to be a coin. I'm still digging some trash that read as nickels, but I am finding nickels.
