I had made the decision early in the year that I was going to curtail my posting of finds as much as I used to and only post finds from hunts that have a little special flavor to them. To some extent, this is one of those hunts.

You may recall from a couple of my previous finds posts that my hunting buddy and I had run into a spot that was loaded with clad along with some silver jewelry finds and a fair amount of wheat cents, 30, had also come to light, but not one silver coin had been found. We were both pretty be-fuddled of why no silver coins had shown up, but a pretty good batch of wheat cents had. After our yesterdays hunt we got to talking about the "bank" as we had dubbed the spot since it had yielded us over 600 modern coins over three different hunts and maybe silver was deeper and maybe we should give the spot another shot and rig our 75's up with the larger 11" coil. And, thats what we did this morning.

As fate would have it, I finally got my coil over 3 silver coins, but only 1 had some reasonable depth to it. My 1st silver was the 64d Rosie and it was about 5" deep. My 2nd was the 44 Washington and that one did have some depth...at least 8". My 3rd silver item was the 925 arrow head pendent and it was near 6" deep. My last silver was the 42d Merc. and it boasts a depth of 4-5". Also dug 7 wheat cents, 10, 18, 20, 20, 42, 55 & 55 along with 82 modern coins. Of which, 37 were Memorials. My buddy also dug 8 wheat cents and 100 + modern coins. So, we are now pushing the 50 wheat cent mark from this spot and nearly 800 clad and cents.

Numerous 2 and 3 coins coming up in the same hole along with co-located junk and coins, too, so silver might just be hiding. We shall see. HH jim tn

It's good to see the silver machine alive and well, sounds like that big coil made the difference. Nice quality hunt Jim, 4 silvers is my annual quota.

Nice finds Jim... go back and find more ..lot's more.

Hey, bud, we are going to keep at it, rest assured.

As a side note, that bell looking piece has "cheers" and "Xmas" stamped on it. HH jim tn

The ratio of trash to good stuff seems ideal. Good spot ! I really like that pendant. It looks intricate and well done.

The trash shown was from the last hour or so of digging. I had made a earlier trash dump in one of the trash barrels. I will say, though, I don't dig a ton of trash. The F 75 is pretty good at telling me what is under the coil. HH jim tn

Realy nice systimatic hunt jim! I know your on the right track! Love the name you dubbed your spot lol hh rick in mi

Another great performance Jim!

I decided to part ways with the F70 for several reasons; with our limited hunting time in Colorado, I didn't want to try and learn another detector like the F70..so I got a Vaquero and so far it's been a great machine!

I'm hoping that tomorrow I can dig some masked old coins :detecting:

My buddy and I went back to the "bank" this morning and found that the bank was still open. Chris hit 114 coins, including 2 wheats and 2 rings. I had 70 coins in total, including 4 wheats, 1 45p war nickel and a 1920 Mercury and 1 junk ring. That puts us real close to 1000 coins from the spot. I think more silver may now start to show up more frequently since getting bunches of the modern coins and a lot of trash removed. My Merc and war nickel came out of a area we had hit more then once. The nickel, however, was a true 8" deep, but didn't read like a nickel, but did sound pretty good. Anyway, THE BANK IS STILL OPEN. HH jim tn

Jim, I'd like to open an Account at the bank, sounds like you and Chris have found a honey hole. When you get a place like that hunting becomes real exciting and you can't wait to get back in there and do some more digging. Those places are hard to find.

Yeah, both of us are old coin seekers at heart, but we have had a ball at that spot. With the inordinate number of wheat cents dug without a silver coin coming to light, it became a challenge to get a silver. Now, they are starting to show themselves. There is room still to open an account. We haven't really used our 5" coils in the heaviest of trash areas and there just has to be coins and more jewelry hiding in these areas. HH jim tn
