?? about 3 khz coil

Nock

New member
I put my 3x9 inch khz coil on for the first time today and searched a liitle in my backyard, it seems to me that this coil may be a little heavier than my 7.5 khz. Is it a heavier coil than the 7.5 x 9 inch ?

Thanks for any comments Nock

Yes, lower frequency on same coil form = more copper wire windings.

Thanks BarnacleBill, That was my first thought when i started to notice the weight. I'am going to have to strengthen up my arms before spring comes. I've been slacking on my workouts since i started metal detecting' but i did lose a little around my waist since i've been coin shooting. Thanks again and good hunting to you.

My 9-inch concentric at 7.5 kHz (with coil cover) weighs in at 15.4 ounces. My 9-inch concentric at 3 kHz (with coil cover) weighs in at 1 pound, 1.6 ounces, or 17.6 ounces. This is a difference of 2.2 ounces. HH Randy

Thanks, as Randy explained:
9-inch concentric at 7.5 kHz (with coil cover)-----------------------------------------------15.4 ounces.
9-inch concentric at 3 kHz (with coil cover) weighs in at 1 pound, 1.6 ounces, or 17.6 ounces.
This is a difference of 2.2 ounces.

Mine is in the mail and will be here next week, so does anyone know the weight of the 10.5-inch (MF and/or HF) DD's??

Alot of heard over time how to handle the heavier weight of the 10.5-inch DD coils better:
1) Put the middle shaft of backwards.
2) Put the coil on backwards.
3) Use a straight-shaft.
and/or
4) Use a bungee like SwingyThingy or SwingEze.

Hi David,

These weight are from Minelab Australia,
I don't know if they include the skid plate or not...I would guess - yes

6" 18.75Khz 330 grams...11.5 oz
9" 7.5Khz 450grams....15.8 oz
5" x 10" 18 Khz 375 grams....13.1 oz
10.5" 18.75 Khz 585 grams...20.5 oz

Hope this helps.
