about ground ballance

I was reading a message from squirrel1 was post last February on 29th about auto ground tracking and lock track, but my wonder is at first very first when I used my v3i and that was in Cyprus island I found coins those were very very small, their dimensions were less the 1 cm but I was then trying to learn how to ground balance. I was very happy to see that I could find those coins and see how sensitive was the machine...but then when I already learned the ground balance those coins disappeared. My question is if that loosing the targets it is from ground balance and how could I regain this ability?

There's an option in the tracking live control or menu called track offset (not to be confused with frequency offset). Try adjusting it (most likely a positive number will give you what you want rather than negative) and see what the results are, When you do the ground balance routine, the offset will not be applied to the audio - so balance till the audio stabilizes as normal. But once you're back in normal mode, you should hear the offsets. So, if you go to pinpoint and lower the coil to the ground, you will most likely hear an increase in audio while lowering. (Offset set to 0 would ideally keep the audio at the same level while lowering the coil on the ground - other factors like liftoff can have an effect, but, if you have a positive offset, the audio should be a steady increase. Probably don't want to make it so positive that it makes a huge increase in audio though). That would be my guess what you want to try.

Thank you very much Ak1234, sounds pretty good to me what you have mentioned. I still new you know with metal detecting and I am trying to learn generally about metal detectors and their functions. It is very kind of you following our questions and giving help to us, at least to my own.

I just got back, thanks for the answer Anne.

I m very sorry Bobby I really did not meant anything about you. I really i am. I think these things with detectors happens when you are newbie. You know those squeak sounds from step to sweep are really annoying you when you have to dig them also to learn what they are! and when quite targets disappearing! Thanks.
