ACE 150 vs. ACE 250

Bernie

New member
My wife and I are new at metal detecting. She started out with an ACE 150 and has moved up to an X-Terra. I have a GTI 2500 and am happy with it although I am still learning to use it. We have kept the 150 as a backup machine. The question is whether the 250 is that much better than the 150 to justify getting rid of the 150 and getting a 250 as our backup.

More notches, notch elimination, pinpointing feature, more modes to name a few. It's a pretty big jump in my opinion to buy the 250.

Get the 250 as the pinpoint and other feature are worth the extra bucks. You might find that you will be using the 250 for more than a backup.

The 150 doesn't have the relic mode-a setting just above nails. You cannot program your own personal program as w/250. I found my dad's favorite pocketknife by ELIMINATING everything but the segments near iron, as there was lots of trash. It was next to a spark plug, also in the same segments, and he remembered he had just cleaned it to try to get the tiller running again-but had to get another spark plug. On the 250 you can just about count a large iron object being on the dime icon-and by raising the coil and noting its size eliminate it as trash. Now if you ONLY plan to use it as a backup, it has the jewelry mode and the coins mode, which are good modes for the average location-and there's always the a/m mode just in case. I would like to have a 150 as a backup for my 250!

Same depth, same everything other than a few more bells and whistles on the 250. I hunt with my 150 without any discrimination, my ears and my gut tell me what to dig. If I already owned the 150 and was proficient with it, I wouldn't see any advantage to picking up the 250. If I was looking to buy a backup detector, I'd buy the 250 as the price difference isn't a bunch. The longer I detect, the less bells and whistles I want, especially in a multi-toned detector. Knowing your machine is what brings home the goods.

Get the 250!!!

It sounds like you are doing better with your 250 than I am with my 2500. I have found some nice old silver coins and silver rings, but no gold or diamonds --Yet!!

I love my ACE 250... it was my second machine... Pin Point,,, Elimination,,, and savable program... lots of stuff the 150 don't have... My main machine is the Minelab Explorer SE... i use the 250 on play ground.... You cant beat the machine near playground equipment... if there is a coin or jewelry near the polls, the 250 will give you a double beep... I would definitely consider the 250 over the 150 Bernie.....

come on baby you know you want it.... git it, git it

GIT THAT 250

Stoppp! OK!!! just buy the ace 250 / yes you will spend more but you Will find more if u learn this MD/ just buy it turn it on and GOOOO!!! d----it! No-regerts? Mate do-it!!!!

Alright, you got me. I am going to go ahead with the 250 as a backup for my 2500. It sounds like I might even get to like it better for park and playground use, but plan on keeping my 2500 as my main beach machine. I had been watching a used DetectorPro Headhunter Wader on ebay which looked like it might go for a reasonable price, but the guy withdrew it before the end of the auction.
