Ace 250 and headphones

PharmSearcher

Does anyone use headphones with the Ace 250? I just don't see the point. If the machine has detected something it will either sound off or not right? Can you hear faint belltones? Am I missing something by not using them? Your thoughts please.

This will be ( if the snow ever melts) my 2nd yr of :detecting:

When i started using hpones on the ace ( AND the GTI) i
found that i heard signals better and found coins i know
i would have missed.. think of it the sound has to go
from underneath the Ace or GTI thru the speakers
With headphones you can hear fainter sounds that could be coins

Id reccomend them ..

Have happy safe fun hunts

PS they also elimane noise from whatever is around you Kids barking
dogs traffic etc

Nah. I use the cheap headphones I get at the Dollar Tree for a buck.. The Ace is either on or off digital and the pinpoint mode is the only mode that you can hear any tiny variations in sound. Another reason I use the cheapos with the small earpieces is because they don't cover the entire ear and I can hear any intruders nearby-and in this day and age that is important. Finally, during the heat of the summer I can comfortably wear them without worrying about the heat. As a last note, last week I got the small earbuds for a buck as they were out of the larger size, and they were great also.

Detecting without headphones is like bathing without soap, kinda pointless. Get a good set and use them. Now, if you like annoying everybody within 200 yds. of you, constantly having kids around you and missing some good targets for me to find, then by all means, don't use them. You will also get better battery life with 'phones as it takes less power to drive them than the speaker. Just make sure you get some with a volume control on them or the 250 will blow your ears off!! Any serious detectorist uses good quality 'phones and never hunts without them.

Totally agree with BigCatD on everything. You will almost double the Battery life

I will not hunt without them for all the reasons already mentioned.:garrett:

When kids come asking questions - point to an ear cup and say "I can't hear you" and keep going
In/around a noisy environment - headphones help
Cold/windy - a little insulation from it
Battery life - already mentioned
Going with the wife - can't hear her so no communications
Others see you detecting with headphones - you look like you know what your doing and serious about it.

I started from the first minute with headphones years ago - I don't what it's like without them detecting. I did more nugget detecting in the past where a threshold base was important to set and hear - and the faint whisper signals.
With the 250 digital generated bell tone, I would think headphones are not as important.
I'm just used to using headphones and quality is what I want - without them I would feel like I forgot my shorts.

Yep, either you can hear it, or you can't.. All the beeps are the same volume.
I use a single earbud type of thing, but I never wear it on my ear. It stays clipped to
my arm band. I hate wearing headphones when I'm detectoring..
The only reason I use one is to lower the volume. The speaker is too LOUD, so
I use the tiny ear phone to greatly mute the volume.
And I still have no trouble hearing it. You can see it in this pix.. It stays on the arm
band at all times. I've never actually worn it on my ear...

The cheapos I use are not impedance matched, and thus maximum volume is not transferred. It comes out about right near my ears.

Yeah Get some headphones! I got a great deal from my dealer on a pair with adjustable volume on both ear cups. Before I used a 1/4 to 1/8 jack and used Ipod earphones mounted to my detector. It worked, then just bought headphones. It does make a difference. H H
Nick P.S. my dealer is in citrus heights big valley metal detectors.

I do. I use the ones from Radio Shack. There were right around $14.00 and have
dual controls on both sides for volumn. Also very comfortable. The ear phones that
came with my Ace 250 ,2 1/2 years ago were nice but very uncomfortable.

Actually I just went to the Radio Shack website and don't see them so maybe
they don't carry them anymore.

I'm heading that way shortly anyway to get another set at the local store so will get back
with you. Very comfortable and they have lasted me a full year now with no trouble.atz

No. I just put tape over the speaker to quieten it down. It too loud, and faint signals is something it doesn't do; just narrower signals instead. I personally dislike wearing headphones. I even tried hunting for gold with head phones on, using a gold machine, and found I could hear the signals better through the speaker. It was a windy day too. I thought that the head phones would cut the wind noise out, but all they did, was contribute to it.

I hate headphones, but use them sometimes. For some reason the tones on my ACE drive dogs and ravens here nuts. Basicly I use them sometimes in town for P.R. I don't like bothering people. Myself, the tones don't bother me but any headphones must be sound adjustable or the tones would blow my ear drums out. I just hate bending down or walking through brush and having phones yanked off my ears, it's irritating. So, in the country and some city areas I go commando.
