Ace 250 battery indicator?

The battery strength indicator on my 250 has the first of the four blocks missing. How far down do you let the indicator go before you put in new batteries or is it time right now? Does efficiency begin to decrease as soon as the first block goes.

You can start thinking about changing when you hit the last block.

I have the 550 and I've let it go to 1 bar left and she still finds coins & jewelery.Never really noticed a performance problem. Uncle Willy or some of the others can give you a good answear on the 250.
