Ace 250 Battery Life

New member
What are you guys who swing an Ace 250 getting for battery life? I have kept an accurate loge for the past 7 sets and with Energizer Max e2 I got the worst at 12.25 hours. With regular Energizers ranged from 13 hours to 15 hours. Average 13.75 hours. I don't use headphones all the time. I actually prefer not to use them. Last set of batteries I used headphones for 6 hours and they died today at 13 total hours. I always change as the meter begins to flip between 3 and 2 bars of battery life. Stopped at Walmart and bought some Duracells to give them a try. I also seem to get better battery life by doing many small hunts rather than 2 or 3 long hunts on a set of batteries. I'd like to hear your experience.

Chris

I use rechargeables to save money. I don't keep track of the hours but I would say they last as long as the throw aways.

Same here. I use mine until the bar is at two then I pull them and put in fresh ones. It's nice to have a charger in the truck. Charge while swinging......

I friend uses the Panasonic Oxyride in her 250 and says she won't use any other.
I don't know, I don't use them myself. I been using rechargeable NiMH, and now I hear they exceed my 3000 mAH rating. I can't change yet as I have to many that work well. Nice to charge a dozen at a time too.
If I was away from home and didn't have rechargeable to carry me through, then I would have to hit up a local store to pick up some Alkaline as long as they are name brand.
Since I left home once with three machines and no batteries at all, I bought the copper tops for two of the machines. The other machine had proprietary battery packs so i was out of luck that time. Haven't left home detecting without plenty of battery power since.
Having a machine with common market batteries = a good thing.

Nobody keeps a battery log? I guess I really am the anal retentive metal detector. I keep logs of everything. I keep a spreadsheet where I input all my finds, hours detected, coins per hour, dollars per hour, miles driven, the weather and on and on. I input the price of gold and silver daily to calculate up to the minute value of my hoarde. It's part of the fun for me.

Oh well. If anybody has a figure for how many hours they are getting per set, I'm still interested.

Think I have a good spot to hit early tomorrow. Drove by and saw 4-500 people in a field both Saturday and Sunday where there are usually only pick up football and softball games.

Good luck gang.

Chris

It's a hobby. You can't calculate what it costs to enjoy a HOBBY. If you did and saw what it costs you would quit before you posted your complaint about it.
I also keep an Excell spread sheet of my "HOBBY". It shows where, when, coin total, amount and any special finds. I've gone to a playgound and found TWO pennies. SO WHAT!!! I added them to my collection. You have to seperate your "HOBBY" time from your "I've got other things to do time" and then go from there. Other wise you will never enjoy the hobby/sport/entertainment/thrill of metal detecting.........

But I can calculate what it costs. Practically to the penny. As I wrote, that is a part of the fun for me. I like the record keeping part almost as much as swinging the detector. If there wasn't some financial gain, I wouldn't be enjoying the thrill of the hobby nearly as much.

I enjoy many of the other benefits too. I've lost 15 pounds and haven't changed my eating or drinking habits a bit. In fact I drink a bit more beer than I used too. My tan is as good as it's ever been but still pretty fair. Met a lot of real nice folks. Haven't figured out how to put a dollar value on them but I'll work on it.

I always enjoy your posts!

Chris

You should see the records I keep for my coin collection!

Sorry cwilk but I short cutted your post for this reply.

I have $15 worth of SAC's and SBA's that I have found. They are in my "show off folder". I have another give or take 50 bux worth of coins that I have found. Since day ONE I have never thought of a "financial gain" as you put it. It's ONE MORE TIME a >>>>HOBBY<<<< ......Time is what you put a price on. Time for me is something I spend to use while killing time.

Happy Hunting

Do you sell your rings?

Chris[/quote]

Why would I? They are part of my hobby, my collection to show what I have found for the time I have put into the HOBBY. The coins I find can buy the goods. My brother and many others buy gold coins with their find money. I put it in the bank, buy something for this hobby or another when time comes and enjoy it just the same. On the other hand, ask many of the other swingers here. They have found and sold plenty of stuff they have found. Of course they have been doing it since dirt......ehehe.

To each his own. The gold rings I have found are special to me and will remain special up until the day I send them off to be melted down for cash. I'll probably keep one or two nice ones. The silver rings will receive the same treatment. If gold continues it's rise that day is fast approaching. I'll have my memories, my logs, a few photos, and at least a grand if you include my clad. My wrapped clad will go to the bank the first day the banks open after January 1, 2008 into a special metal detecting account. Some day it will buy me something special like a new detector.

I guess a new detector would be a capital expense. I'll depreciate it over 5 years to offset the profits from my metal detecting ventures. I hope you're laughing because that's a joke.

Nice chatting with you!

Wearing phones all the time will virtualy double battery life. Takes a lot of juice to run that speaker. Go to good rechargeables and they'll last 2-4 times longer than alkalines before needing recharged and last 3-4 years before needing replaced.

The only record I keep is the list in my "coin can" showing the number of each coin, the total number of coins, and the dollar amount. I got a really slow and late start this year so have less than $100 in my can, not counting the several dollar coins I've found. Like you say, it's a hobby not a business.

Bill

I don't sell mine. Have given several nice ones away for Xmas, birthday, etc. Think I've got around 300 rings.
