ace 250 for parks good or badd ?

I'm intrested in the ace 250 I like the 6.5 khz thing i like the standard coil i think it would cover lots of ground fast it has the option of getting a 5" sniper coil which i bet would be really great in high trash spots i also like the idea of the three tone I.D seems light enuff ive heard of one guy around hear thats found all kinds of goodies whith one im sereously thinking of getting one i need you guys to talk me out of it and tell how crapy it is thanks Gunnar

You buying a 250 would be bad. Bad for the rest of us because you'll be digging some of our loot! That sniper coil isn't that big. It's 4.5 inches of power. That Hostest cupcake can dive deep in the soil. The tone ID is great. Selective notch discrimination. Well if you decide not to buy one then I know there will be a lot more treasure left in the ground for us.

Can't do that as it ain't so. :) It's a great little goodie getter and everybody loves it. I own all of Garrett's top dollar machines but the 250 is what I walk out the door with most of the time. It's light and handy to use and will find all the stuff the big bucks machines will find. Take a chance and jump in and get your feet wet. :)

:shrug:Are you kidding me? 7" w/the sniper? Now I was plumb happy until you told me that.ls that on a quarter? Oh, sorry about that Gunnar. As you can see, I only have the stock coil. Although they say the Ace is only for "clean" places, there isn't a place that I've hunted that I didn't enjoy my Ace. One site had BAD surface trash and I turned the sensitivity to 2 and just about cherry-picked it to death. The Ace's sensitivity control is BETTER than most detectors, as theirs usually stays at about 1/2 sensitivity no matter how low you turn it. You can use the relic mode and miss the iron nails (except the big ones) and paper clips and find the tiny gold rings. The coins mode is great for high trash-and ALL modes are reprogrammable-so if you wanted to add the FOIL range to the coins mode to find certain rings and still miss the tabs, you could. And it's always nice to have ID in the all metal mode. And if you had to find a specific item you could notch everything but that range. You may hear or read that the pinpointing is not that great-but I just raise the coil 6-10" off the ground and the target's always in the center of the coil where the little arch is-no need for any video. Now I don't live near salt water, so I don't know about there. And as you can read, it LOOKS like that now I'm gonna have to get a 4.5" coil.

I will agree with Bill. The sniper can go 6 + inches. No that's not on a quarter. That's on a dime. Remember being small it can take full sensitivity in most places with no falsing.

hi Gunnar what are ya looking for??? new coins- old coins- gold jewellery ??? i find the ace to be a great little detector i use it mostly in tot lots looking for $$$ & gold it does an awesome job doing this. it"s good in the grass looking for newer coins as well. even if ya end up not liking it it"s also a great second detector for the mate who does int have one or a backup for yourself & have a good resale value so i don't think you"ll lose much by getting one & trying it out ya never know ya might like it more than the one your swinging now .
hope this helps

... for a long time. You've missed whats been going on elsewhere. The little ACE 250 is very good for parks. It has a fast response and adequate depth. It even gets a little deeper if you swing it fast over iffy targets. It also separates targets well in trash.
Hold off on the sniper 'til you work with it a little. You may not need it.
If you want a good Garrett with a sniper, get the GTP 1350 and add their Crossfire puck to it.

7 inches deep? Hummmmmmm. They probably zeroed in on a large target in relic mode. Most coins
are going to be 1-6 inches. The Ace is excellent. Get the machine as soon as you can, and get yourself a
hand held pinpointer as well. Saves time digging. You don't need an expensive one. I have a cheapo and it does just fine.
Katz

I KNEW I sould have gotten that pinpointer!

Well, if we talked you out of it, you would just get a lesser machine for the same $$$,
or spend more to get an equal.. :sadwalk:
Seriously, I think it's the best machine for the price out there.
Can't go wrong. It works, and even if you decided to get something else,
you could flip that 250 in no time. Look for used 250's... I bet you don't see a
whole lot of them. Most that buy em, keep em. And if you do sell one, you
won't be waiting too long to unload it.
With the two extra coils, it's a killer for the $$$$ involved. I can hunt most any type
of area and expect to do a reasonable job.
The sniper coil is a killer, and I actually recommend it as the first add on coil,
vs the 9x12. Well, unless you know you are going to be mostly in large fields...
The 250 with the sniper is a very fun machine to use. It's like a coin vac, and
yes, really lets you weed through the junk.
I'll have had mine for three years at the beginning of next year, and I have no
regrets at all. And it's good enough, I'm still content enough not to feel I need
to upgrade yet. A lot of that is due to the two extra coils.
But also I'm really used to it, and that can mean as much as a fancier machine
at the end of the day. Like Bill says, if you know how to use it, "which is basically
a no brainer, being it's so easy", you are not going to miss much that any other
machine would do, being most targets are within an "average" depth that any
good machine can do. I can catch quarters to about 11 inches or so with the
9x12 coil. That's not too bad for a low price machine.
And the good part is the 9x12 will still hit on tiny stuff. I've found BB's with the
9x12 coil, and they hit like a 5lb bass on a 202 zebco..
Anyway, for the price, can't go wrong.

...is like asking a stripper if she likes dollar bills. Youll hear nothing but glowing reports.
It is a good little instrument, I'll say that. Once I got one, I did find myself wondering what all the hype was about. But for $200, that sort of good counts for something.

They did manage to pack alot of goodies in that little yellow case, although I think the pinpoint is vague and un-refined. The best pinpoint function I've used in a long time is the VCO pinpoint on the Fisher 1236-X2. If Garrett could get that down, they'd be on to something.
The Ace 250's best attributes are its weight, ease of use and fast target response. The notching and tone features are helpful, too. For most park hunting, those are the most important things to have... and the little Ace has them in spades.

But the headphone jack was just placed wrong! I moved mine to under the arm in about two days.
