Ace 250 HEADPHONE MODIFICATION

I always thought the Garrett folks had gone a little wacky with the Ace 250 headphone mount. All the effort they put into the Ace, and they stick the jack on the offside rear. What were they thinking!? So to remedy the situation I came up with my Ace mod, moving the headphone jack where it belongs - under the armcuff:

As you can see it's not the usual lashed on pigtail extension. It is semi-permanent, yet remains external so is removable should you wish. This means that should it ever have to go back for repair at Garrett, it has the virtue of not breaking into the control box. It is also rugged... it was loaned to my detecting pal Hal, recently, who is not known for babying detectors. It passed the "Hal Test" with flying colors.

I'm showing it now for those who may wish to duplicate it, as I will be putting it up for sale shortly. I'm keen to get another GTP 1350 in it's place. Before long, this one-of-a-kind honey will be somewhere else, the mod perhaps dismantled forever.

Anybody interested in buying it before it goes on the block, just let me know.

The thing attached to the pinpoint button is a silicone rubber bumper. Makes the pinpoint a bit more positive, IMHO.

David: Very nice clean job on the headphone jack. :clapping: I assume you got the parts at your local Radio Shack. I may give that mod a try, and also the bumper..Thanks, Bernie

But prob run mine out the cap on the pole, haven't looked to see if the rear stand mounting screw is in the way yet though? Thought about doing a straight pole conversion but don't want to set the control in the dirt. Snowlocked at the moment, plenty of time to tinker.

If you want to run it out the cap, you'll find the 1/4" jack won't fit inside the 7/8 tubing Garrett uses. I tried that first.
You'd have to go to a 1/8"/3mm digiphone jack if you wanted to use the end cap.
Since nearly all detectors sold use 1/4" jacks, it seems prudent to stick with that. The option exists of, course.

And, yes you can buy the 1/4" jacks and plugs at Radio Shack or online from one of the many electronics supply houses.
They are referred to as audio connectors when you ask or search for them.

I did have the 1350. And I want to get back to one.
So I am selling the Ace 250 and a Fisher 1236-X2 to raise the scratch for one.
