Ace 250 old technology?

reddirtfisher said:
 I have noticed that the 80's detectors (all brands) especially the TR/Disc units are selling for high prices on Ebay. What does that tell you? These buyers must know something ! Also concerning the Ace 250....there is only one reason I won't buy one and you guys are going to think this is stupid but I don't like the bright YELLOW :yikes: color. I wrote to Garrett about this and they basically told me, "Sorry Bubb, The color will stay the same." My reasoning for this is that I am NOT trying to attract attention when I am in the field. It's kinda hard not to quickly spot a bright yellow blurr swinging in the sun. The green is fine,...but yellow? I know,...I know...they are trying to make it look "sporty" (for the younger generation). But statistically most metal detectorists are middle aged men such as myself and many others on this forum. Just my 2 cents. Happy Hunting from the infamous RedDirtFisher :detecting::garrett:

That's an easy fix! If you don't like the color, for $5 you can buy a can of spray-paint made for plastic. You don't even need primer. Mask off the front; and paint it camo green; flat black, or whatever color you like.

How could it be? It was designed in the 2000's. I like analog tones myself. The tone on the Scorpion is so smooth and pleasant even though it is one tone, The tones on the GTI 2500 are digital tones and get on my nerves after a while, I have to change the tone to keep my ears interested. I think the Ace is great and like John said it will perform as well as more expensive machines.

The ACE 250 works no matter what anyone what to tell ya about it... It just does...

It's price right and anyone can have success with it, that makes the ACE 250 fun! :detecting:

John: I agree, this by the way is not the first time that Garrett has produced a reasonably priced Detector that would hunt with the high priced Detectors, and out hunt them. In the 1980's Garrett built the Freedom ace, freedom II, and freedom III, they like the Ace 250 would hunt with the big boys and usually find more than the high priced Detectors could

Hey I'm older than dirt and it don't bother me. I ain't trying to make a fashion statement just go tecting.. If it works it could be orange with purple poka dots for all I care. :)

Your older than dirt? Hahahaha.
Yea, I'm getting there myself....an old dirt clod
crumbling around the edges. Have to stay out of the rain
or I start to turn to mud!:)-)

I did a side by side comparison test with the Freedom III. The Ace at SENSITIVITY 3 matched depths with the Freedom. Not only that, the signals in the nickel-foil area were stronger and clearer. Finally, I added the 41/2" sniper coil a couple of weeks ago. I've never been so shocked in all my life! The sniper coil was so amazing it replaced my large coil-I'd rather have MORE finds per scan. I've owned over a hundred detectors, and the Ace with the sniper coil has ended my search. I repeat-do everything possible to get a sniper coil.

I started off with an Ace 250. I thought I could make better finds with a Minelab X-70 and bought one with several coils. My finds with the X-70 were not any better and I found more old silver with the Ace. The X-70 had a little more depth. I have found that the ease at which the Ace operates with lets me find more because I'm not distracted with all the extra bells and whistles. I'm saving for a Garrett 2500 because of it's ease of use. I want a detector for when I'm in the highly minerilized ground. I would not have considered the 2500 unless I had bought the Ace. Garrett made a good decision in pricing the Ace where they did.
I just got the sniper coil and 10 X 14 coil for the ace. If the darn snow would melt I'd dance a jig. Last week I was in another part of the state with no snow or frozen ground. I posted my findings under "first silver of the year" The finds amazed me for searching such a small piece of real estate. Can't wait to go back with the sniper. I know there is more to be found.

Best Regards, John K

Your right about Garrett putting out other lower priced machines.
The Scorpian Gold is a good example. It's probably almost as good as the Whites MXT (It's alot lighter too.)
for Gold nuggett hunting and coin and jewlery but without a few of the extras, and Kelly Co sells it for $467.00.
BUT having said that I don't think Garrett ever priced a detector ever as low as the Ace 250. I could be wrong.
