Ace 250 response

I would like to ask someone familiar with response times on detectors. I keep hearing that my Ace is a slow response machine. The only time I can see where this might be true is using the coins mode or high discrimination. When I try to whip the coil so that the target can't be heard, the Ace responds no matter how fast I whip the coil. Since I use it mostly in the jewelry or relics mode, is response time that big of a factor? That way, if a junk target is near a good target, I would get a signal because the disc level would be so low that response time to two targets shouldn't be a factor, and to separate them I could just slow down the coil.

What people need is a fast recovery time. Most of us run some form of discrimination. In the relic mode only iron is disc out. So within one sweep having a nail and a nickel you want a detector that can disc out the nail the "recover" fast enough to beep on the nickel. Sometimes it's pretty tough if they are close together. This is why a small coil is key in trashy sites. The 250 is pretty good at this with a slow to moderate sweep.

I don't slow down the coil, but sweep it faster in a smaller area to separate items close together. Uncle Willy calls it twitching the coil. The smaller coil helps in higher trash areas also.

I don't know where you heard this bit of tripe as the 250 has a very rapid response and recovery time and it's almost impossible to swing it to fast to miss a target. That's why "twitching" works so well to turn a lousy signal into a good one. Since it is a "motion detector" the faster you scan the deeper it goes and the better it diascriminates. End of story.

Thanks. I LOVE my Ace, especially in the relic mode and I can't figure all the negatives out there. I guess 20+ years of detecting and KNOWING how detune and pinpoint, matching my sweep speed to the area, and just plain common sense has avoided all the problems others seem to be having. And all one has to do is wear their headphones NEAR their ears and not over them if the sound is to loud.

I only use my Ace 250 in coin mode, and swing fast, I am finding coins at 4" to 8" all the time. I think you were told some bull....

Yes, I highly recommend that you buy a set of headphones with individual volume controls.

But, I find that sometimes, one ear goes out... To fix it, I have to rotate the headphone jack a little bit. I am on my 2nd set of earphones, I returned the first set because of this problem, so I don't think that I bought 2 bad headphones twice in a row.

The reason I mentioned that about the headphones is because I use a cheap pair w/out volume control and with the small ear pads-My ears get SO HOT! and anything else is very uncomfortable. But the loud bong still packs a punch on these old eardrums and I just move them in front of my ears-then if a predator (and there a few out there in these days and times) is around I can hear ALSO what's going on around me.

I was in Wally World looking for some headphones, not much to pick from at the Redneck Wally World, We have 3 distinct Wally Worlds around here. One we call the Redneck one, lots of camo and hunting gear, one we call the Yuppie one, lots of clothes and hot mommies, and one we call the Fishin' one, its on Merritt Island close to the water and the beaches so I headed over to the Fishing Wally World and found some decent Koss headphones. They didn't have individual volume controls just one slider, they work well, the only problem is they came in a 2 pack, two sets of headphones for $19.99 so I now have a spare and they were only about $10.00 each. I don't wear them covering my ears either, we have lots of predator types around here but they don't bother 250 pound 6'4" rednecks in camo packing a big Bowie Knife (digging tool, right?) and who knows what else in his boot. So if you are looking for some decent headphones at a good price mosey on over to Wally World, 2 fer 1. Have a great day!
