Ace 250 upgrades

Hi everyone, my first post so be gentle! I have just purchased a 250 and was wondering what I can do for upgrades and improvements. I bought it used but new in the box. It has the original coil on it. A friend of mine says he can wind me a new coil any size I want and really don't know what I can use. Can I use a D coil on this model? Like I said, I'm a newb so be kind.....Franco

Welcome to the forum! This is a wonderful community and a great place to share info. In addition to the stock(6.5"x9")coil Garrett makes a 4.5" sniper coil and a 9"x12" coil. EXcellerator makes a 10"x14" double D coil for the Ace 250. Feel free to ask for advice at anytime. There are lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here. You can also use the search feature and learn alot, too. Best of luck to you and happy hunting.

Welcome aboard. It would be wise to thoroughly learn this detector with the coil it has then add coils as needed. There are two factory coils available - the 4.5 inch Sniper and the 9 x12 plus an aftermarket coil or two made by other manufacturers. If you need any help this is the place to come. Just ask at will. The 250 is a great little machine and should reward you well.

Just like Bill said get to know the detector before you start getting up grades ,, it a very good machine that will get the job done .

As all above have said is good advice I started with a package deal ( I bought 2 units ACE250's) They came with the standard coil and the 9x12 and accessary stuff. I recently purchased the sniper coil and the Pro pointer last week so I am set with all Garretts goodies to do what has to be done wherever. I use both units when my wife is not with me depending on the conditions of the site I use the standard and or the 9X12 and the other unit is the sniper.

I am new at this as well and am not getting out as much as I'd like but I am "learning my unit" at every site I go to. GET TO KNOW YOUR UNIT!. "Play" with it at first even if it is trash it will help you know later what to dig and what not to dig. As some have said on here numerous times put various items (jewery, coins, etc...under somethying or bury them at certain depths and see if you can find what they are by ther signatures on the machine. IT DOES HELP!!!!!

Get to know your trash signatures as well! It will save you much time...and if in doubt what you pick up on your unit DIG DIG DIG..
Good luck

Don

I did watch the Garrett video on the 250. There was a lot of good info to use. I like the passing of certain items by the coil to learn what different items sound like when you pass over them. I'll try to bury my class ring since my wife freaked out over my wanting to do that to my wedding ring! Maybe she thinks I won't find it:shrug:

Welcome. I have two ACE 250's. Have had them for over 4 years. I keep the sniper coil on one and the 9x12 on the other one. I have the 6.5 x 9 inch coil also, but I don't use it that much. And I learn something new with the machine just about every time I go out. I went yesterday and found a 1883 Indian head cent and a 1927 wheaty using the RELICS mode. That's the first time I used that mode in a long time. I suggest you put it on ALL METAL mode and dig everything you detect for a while to see how it reacts with different targets. Keep ths SESNITIVITY down to 3 or 4 bars. Hold the coil about 1 or two inches off the ground and sweep about 2 or three seconds in each direction. When you hear the bell sound DIG. Have fun, get dirty, get silver.......Dirty Don.....
