Ace 250 v.s. XT 70

That's a very healthy attitude Dave. Sometimes it's hard to convey what we are really trying to say, when not face to face. The end result is that the intended meaning can be missed.
Actually; I happen to share the Italian gentleman's views. If it wasn't for you guys winning the battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway, we'd be speaking Japanese now. if those Jap carriers weren't sunk in those battles, then the Japs would have invaded Port Morsby (Capital of Papua New Ginea) directly, which would have been the perfect platform to invade Australia from. As it was, they had to come overland. The only force we had to meet them at the time; was our part time militia. Although they we outnumbered 10 to 1, they fought the Japs to a standstill and held them till our regular army returned from helping the Pom's. That evened things up to only being outnumbered 3 to 1, which was enough to drive them back into the ocean again.
It seems that WWII was major turning point for the US as far as world politics goes and most folks were glad to have them onside with the Allies. They were very slow to join the fray though.
We are getting way off detecting, so I better pull up now, but it sure is good to do, as we can learn more about each other. Always good.
Keep up the good thoughts.

There are some great thoughts that you touched on there John. It's a good summery of the state of mankind. Our legal systems have a common base and were essentially based on the 2 Great commandments. Most notably, to respect your fellow mankind. Unfortunately, just as Israel forsook the nature of the Old Testament law and moved the hearts far from God: mankind sees the laws of the land in the same light. They don't care for it's intended nature, but rather see it for the letter of the law. It has become a commodity that is used for the justification of the self seeking at the high cost of lost mutual respect for ones neighbour and a long slippery slope down hill into moral destitution.

This IS a great country and probably is to be for awhile and so are alot of others but it is detiorating little by little. It is getting to the point where it is becoming harder to enjoy our hobbies including metal detecting and many other such relaxing recreational subjects. Below is what I responded to at another website. I am interested in rock hounding as well as metal detecting and here is what I responded to about a recent post about a law that is proposed to be passed by I believe a politician in one of the western states. See Mcrocks.com under the posting of "this is urgent and needs your help now". The situation is very similar to metal detecting and collecting what we find. Check it out. It is getting to the point where we are not going to be able to have any free hobbies to enjoy. I know I am new on here but some of our recreations that we enjoy are slowly being taken away or restricted in some way shape or form. I just hope that my boys and there future children will be able to enjoy what we still have some of.

I hope I don't irk anyone by posting this but it is what this country is becoming and I sure hope it doesn't! I kinda love this country!

To all

I was going to rant and rave about all that is and has been going on in this country but I said to myself..."Don too much IS out of control in this country to rant and rave about".

I think we all know who are responding and commenting to this post know what is at stake with our fun and enjoyments, but how many in this country really know how out of control it is?

"We the people" are supposed to be the controlling factors with our politicians and our government. Unfortunately there are not enough of "us" that see what is really going on to react to the decline of our government and yes it is declining.

Big business controls our government not "we the people".

Other countries control our government not "we the people".

Alot of "other influences" and "other peoples" (not of this country) are controlling our government except "we the people".

The "people of this country" have lost control of "this country" and it is showing dramatically in all areas from our economy and everything in between including our hobbies. If it continues we won't be able to even do anything beyond our own yard boundaries (if that).

I have even heard that it is to the point where rumors of a future "revolution" is in the makings if things don't turn around.

I am not saying anything like the "sky-is-falling syndrome" or such but that everyone can look at all aspects of what is going on around the country and see for yourself that we are having our rights and past times slowly taken away one at a time.

It is a shame we won't be able to enjoy our past times and our children's (God help them)if all this stuff continues to happen.

I am so far from being political I even work for a government agency and hate some of the political crap I have to deal with at times so please don't take me wrong it is that I am a realist and that is how I see things.

If the "people of this country" do not start turning it around NOW I see bad times a comin'!

My 2 cents!!!!

Don

I hope no one takes offense to this post but I was just reading what you all were responding back and forth about and it was sounding very similar especially what Mick said in the last post. So I just had to respond and make my 2 cents again (on this site):usaflag:

I can't help but agree with the statements put forth by David, John, DJR and others. Sadly the legal system seems to be running off the tracks. As a judge, I can control what happens in my little corner of the world, but the tide seems to be running against me.

This topic has gotton off subject! I served in Germany under NATO, with a lot of Aussies, Germans, and Brits. We all supported a common goal - freedom from communist rule. I would never purchase a Chinese detector, however, I do own an X-terra 30 and the Ace 250, and many others from all major manufacturers. I personally enjoy all of them. My concern is how American companies eventually move production to China. I hope that doesn't happen with Garrett and the other fine companies who manufacture within this country.

Back to the X-terra and Ace comparison. As I age, weight is a big consideration for a metal detector. My DFX is a great machine - just too painful to swing for long periods of time. The ACE is an extreme lightweight, not unlike the Tesoro line. The ACE is just plain fun to swing, and it gets the job done if you are not toooooo serious about exteme depth. Personally, I don't like digging 12 inch holes in a manicured lawn, unless the owners or caretakers don't mind. The ACE is about as perfect with the cost to benefit ratio. Some still perceive the ACE as a toy. All I can say to those individuals, is to try one, borrow one for an hour or two. It certainly is fun for me.

You hit a trong chord there bulletman.

Weight is a big factor for me, too. Im glad to see most of the makers getting on the micor bandwagon. Im waiting for Garrett next.

G'day Don.
I guess we have gone way off theme. Sorry about that George. It certainly has been an interesting thread though.
Unfortunately, those that hold the ability to sway governments, generally get favorable outcomes for themselves. That usually means the big end of town. it can be other sources as well, but like you, I held back somewhat in my comments, due to the forum being about detecting. I figured that it was best to keep things simple. One organisation in particular, that threatens the gold detecting fraternity, is tied up with conservation. They want to turn as much of the country as they can, into national parks.
From what I can observe from here and talking to folks that have travelled to the States in the last few years, it would seem that you guys have lost a few more freedoms than we have on this side of the pond. I've seen the level of nervousness that surrounds the US. When I was a postman back in the 80's, I used to take the mail to the US consulate in Sydney sometimes. I took mail to several others as well, and all but the British consulate, were far more relaxed. I got to have a few conversations with the Consular General of Bermuda. He was an interesting chap.
Bernie.
That's an interesting job that you do. You would have seen some very unusual people in your time. The former pastor of our church, is a Parole Officer and he loves what he does. He's been promoted now and is in charge of a region just north of Sydney, so had to move.
I must confess though; I thought folks in that field, were usually a bit smarter than the overage Joe, but being on jury service and talking to a couple of folk, as well as seeing the backwardness of the local police, has cured me of such notions. If the ones I saw, were typical of their profession, then our society is in dire straits. I guess that learned doesn't always equal intelligent.
Enough said.
Happy hunting all.
Mick Evans.
P.S. Bernie. Secret Santa tells me that he should be delivering your gift towards the end of next week. Shhhhh. don't tell anyone though.:poke::angel:

weight is the reason I choice a x-terra over say an upgraded whites or garrett, the x-70 uses 4 AA batteries and weighs only a couple ounces more than the ace. I am only 35 but have bad tendonititus in my elbows, so weight was a HUGE deciding factor for me.

Sorry bulletman as I said I did not want to offend anyone just throwing the BS out there as we may someday not be able to "enjoy" whatever machine is of preference to us. :surrender:I will make my amends to you and add to the topic. I chose the ACE250 because it is a "multi machine" (can do it all), has gotten great raves, is very light weight, easy to use, can be customized, etc...we all know what the machine is so I won't continue...it is a great machine for the money and has all that is needed to find everything from coins to gold. I think Garrett should have called it the "ACE All-in-Oneder"

Bernie I hope you can keep your end of the world straight and don't let that tidal wave drown you my man!. We need more Judges like you in this country have you ever thought of running for politics?

Don

I truly love my Garrett machines. The Ace is probably used more than the other 4 are used. I'm 45 years old and suffer from Arthur (arthritis). The Ace can hunt with me for extended hours as long as it's nice outside (ice and snow moved in today - dang-it)! The DFX that I use occasionally, causes me to end my hunts after a couple of hours. Also, I am not as serious about hunting as I used to be. It's more fun to experiment and have a good time with mother nature. The X-terra is also used upon occasion - however it's not my favorite. Have made some good finds with it - and it's fairly lightweight.

My suggestion is to enjoy what you currently use, and experiment with your friends detectors. You may find something that you will like better. Enjoy the hobby - we may not have much time to enjoy our freedoms with metal detecting.

Bulletman

Enjoy the hobby - we may not have much time to enjoy our freedoms with metal detecting.
We probably should look to England for the lead here. If ever there was a "we know what's good for you," liberal government gone rampant - it's in the U.K.
Theirs is the model for it. Detecting is still alive and well there, so I reckon we have some time left.
Our goal, though, should be to stay on the fringe and out of sight.

Thanks for the kind words Don and Mick. Some of the stuff that comes before me is almost beyond belief. I really have a hard time with the elderly persons who can't take care of themselves for various reasons but still insist on being independent. The older I get, the more I sympathize with them. Looking forward to Santa Mick. :clapping: I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year.
