Ace 250 vs. Xterra 50?

Has anyone used both?
And what's you choice.
I know the xterra has ground balance, but for coin hunting
how do they compare??

Thanks

Bruce

I had em both and I gotta give the nod to the 250, just a little handier to use, LCD is smaller, few other things, but the 250 is so small and handy for coins, DO IT :detecting:

There have been and still are countless ACE's flying out the door at Garrett, It has passed the test of time internationally!

For out and out coinshooting the 250 is tough to beat for ease of handling and use, light as a feather, rapid response and recovery, and the most sold tector on the market - and for good reason. I own just about every machine Garrett makes but I walk out the door 90% of the time with the 250. Did I say that it's also fun to use.

I have both and agree 100% with Uncle Willy... I have only had the 250 for a short time but like it more and more each day.

wow I find it hard to belive given the price differences of these two detectors that the ACE is gett'n the nod over the xterra givin the xterra 50 sells for AU$895.00 the Ace 250 AU$399.00 an I always thought ya got what payed for  that lil Ace must be wolf in sheeps clothing

Hi Bruce.
I don't have the 50, but have owned the X-Terra 30 since they have been out. I have used an X-Tera70 as well (borrowed) and have found that in real world hunts for coins, it doesn't offer any real better discrimination over the 30 on Aussie coins. That may be different on Us coins. The reason being, that as soon as a coin is at an angle to the coil, they seems to show up in several different notches.
The X-Terra's are easier on the ear than the Ace and you can tell good targets from bad ones while sweeping the coil than you can on the Ace. You can tell with the Ace as well, it's just easier on the X-Terra. The large numbers on the X-Terra's are easier on the eye as well. The VCO pinpoint of the X-Terra has it's place on some targets. It's recovery speed is also a bit faster than the Ace as well and you can attach a higher frequency coil to it as well, but that's about where it has it's advantages.
The Ace on the other hand. I find that I can tell a coin from other targets more easily. Mostly though pinpointing. It's pinpoint is far more accurate than the X-Terra. if you detuned an X-Terra, then you can get fairly accurate, but it's no where near as consistently accurate than the Ace. The Ace can hunt much closer to metal than the X-Terra's can as well.
I still own both machines and have used them for similar amounts of times on them as well. I just like them for different reasons. It comes down to what you want out of a detector. I find the Ace to be a more efficient coin hunter, but the X-Terra to be a more pleasant machine to swing due to the above mentioned reasons.

Not that I don't love the Ace 250 Just that I'm interested in all machines.
The Ace has done me well this year. I'm usually a one year person then I move on
wanting to find out more about different brands.
Will I keep the Ace probably so.
I tried the Vaquero and it was a great machine, but no screen, and I really missed that.
With the Ace I have the larger coil for my hunts in Maine at their lovely beaches, and it does great.
But I found it's heavy for land hunts. Mostly soccer fields.

Well again thank for the reply
Here's what the Ace gave me today from the soccer field..
The finds were between 1" and 4".
The best the Ace gave me so far is 7" plus or minus 1/2".
Damp ground.

Happy Hunting

Bruce

Your welcome Bruce.
I hear you on using a variety of detectors. I seem to be pretty hopeless at sticking with just one or two machines. Just bought another one last week (an XLT) and have had my eye on several others, including the Gold Stinger. I feel like trying out a non metered machine next, but I'll have to slow up on my purchases. I'm still learning the GTI. I didn't like it for quite a bit, but I seem to be finding my feet with it now. My problem is that I accumulate detectors rather than selling them and trying something new. starting to build a collection of them now. it's just too hard to let them go.:nopity:

Mick theres surely some tempting bargains floatin around a Gold Stinger ended a day or so ago only bringing $212 located in NSW on ebay in good nick little use phones included ...tempting indeed woulda liked it me self for the price a bargain in my book but I'd already folked out for the ACE rrrrrrwell

I've had them both, sold the Ace 250, kept the XT50. ID tone is better, more disc numbers for better separation of coins and just deeper. The Ace 250 is a good machine for the money with preset GB, the XT50 is just a better machine with manual GB, it will cost a little more, but no matter what anyone says, the XT50 will go deeper, period....John
