Ace 350 pinpointing

Gene

New member
If you use the tip of the coil for pinpointing does it always
pinpoint at the same place regardless of how deep the
target is ? Shallow or deep targets pinpoint the same ?
I have heard about bottlecaps reading as coins sometimes.
Does it usually indicate the same type of coin, say a quarter ?
Just wondering. Very curious about these things as I need a
nice lightweight detector to cover some very large fields and
I am thinking the Ace350 might just be the ticket.
I would appreciate any of your comments because I know those
that are reading this have the answers. This is a great forum !
Thanks in advance and good hunting to all that read this !

I have not used the new Garrett DD coil. But from my experience it is easy. While in pinpoint mode center your target left and right then pull the coil back towards you - when the tone stops it will be right at the front center of the coil. Sometimes on really deep targets it will be an inch or so closer to you. But by the looks of the detection field of the new design most should be strait down. I'm not good at explaining things so does this make sense?

I PP (with 250 and 350) just in front of the stem using PP mode, and "X" the target....strongest tone both directions marks the spot. To be honest, I've never tried it the other way.

If it ain't broke.......

My general experience with DD coils is that you can pinpoint off the toe of the coil, deep or shallow. I'm guessing these will be no different. On my other branded detectors I never even used pinpoint!

On shalow targets the target will be under the Garrett name on the front tip of the coil. On deeper targets it will be back of that point about an inch or more as the signal draws in the deeper it goes. You can pinpoint without using the button by twitching the coil side to side about an inch each way over the target as you drag the coil straight back towards you. When the signal stops stop the coil and move it ahead about a half an inch or when you pick up the signal again. The target will e in the same places as mentioned above.

Thanks Bill. That's exactly what I needed to know.
I appreciate your fast and detailed answer.
Ready to get one now !
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Not using the pinpoint pad sure saves time as you go from target to target.
The more your coil passes over the better the chances of getting the goodies.
Thanks a lot for you answer ! HH Gene

Yeah, use whatever works for you I say Smitty.
Thanks for your answer. I will give your method
a try too. We will see what happens. Have to
get the 350 first. HH Gene

Makes sense to me. Thanks for your input.
I think this will be a fun detector to use.
Hunting sports fields I have a lot of area to cover.
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Yep, good as any for sure. Can't wait to get my 350.
I knew I came to the right place for quick and accurate
answers and I was right, I can't post here very often as
I am at work but when I do it is always a great experience.
This forum is just great !

There is no doubt in my mind that it is Bill.
