Ace 350 suggestions/tips

Hello everyone!! Newbie here. Purchased the 350 discovery pack and so far it's very fun and relaxing (besides the rush when I get a tone!!)
I was wondering if anyone has any tips for the use of this detector. I also ordered a tesoro compadre for a different experience but it hasn't arrived yet.
I'm noticing that it's hard to figure out what's under the coil. Sometimes I get solid tones and solid on the indicator and it's usually 80% of the time correct. Other times it's bouncing around or giving a low sound but really deep which could be something good I think.
I'm still practicing but would appreciate any bits of knowledge in using this machine and being able to figure out what I'm digging so I don't go home with all tabs and aluminum. Sometimes it get frusterating.
Still getting familiar with it but any tidbits would help!!

Well....you are on the right track. You should (and are) digging those iffy signals. For two reasons:

1) To see what is lurking under that coil. You get lots of surprises by doing so.
2) It's part of learning your detector well. Once you get about 100 hours on it, you will begin to learn it's language.

Yeah, I'm still deciphering what it's telling me. I'm figuring out that strong quarter signals have all been aluminum. Still gonna dig them. In time I should learn some ways to tell if it's a coin. I am noticing that with coins. When pinpointing, the signal is very short because if the size of the coin and the blade the DD coil uses, but I still dig them either way.
I am shying away from digging bouncy signals though. Ones that jump from low iron to nickel then back. They always seem to be junk. But do you think I should still dig them?

One day I dug many whole pop cans that rang up as dimes. Cans shredded by lawn mowers sometimes detect as quarters. On the better days as you said 80% of the time your detector is accurate. Or maybe just less junk in the ground. Check out recent posts where the trash dug is shown along with the good stuff found and it is as John posted the reality check of detecting. After awhile you will know by the sound without looking at your screen you have a good signal under your coil. Air Testing your detector lets you hear the sounds your detector gives on various coins and jewelry. Jewelry sometimes comes in where foiled and tabs do. Learning your detector better does takes some time, it is worth the effort.
But digging everything in trashy areas does get tiring at least it did for me. Sometimes I need to find a good target from the ground so I discriminate out the junk and go for some coins for my own encouragement. To become a better at finding the good stuff I know I have to detect more on all metal mode to hear all the signals and dig a lot of junk also. A good tip in case you haven't read it here is always rescan your hole after your recover a target before you put the dirt and plug back in place. Sometimes there are more targets in the hole making the many mixed signals you hear. Pick up a pin pointer if you don't already have one it will speed up your recovery time. Best of luck learning your ACE 350.

I agree with checking the hole before filling in. Also got a thin plastic cutting board from the dollar store to put my dirt on as I dig so it all gets back in.
Went all out on the pinpointer right from the start. Garrett AT pro. Triple dipped it in yellow plastidip too to protect it even though it's rugged. Works really well.
Trash comes with the hobby I guess and us doing our part to leave the area better than it was when we arrived. Some days are definitly worse than others along with some areas.
I need a bumper sticker that says "I'd rather be digging" or something like that lol. Great opportunity for money to be made in that idea!! Not sure what graphic would be on it though.
