Adjustable Frequency On A Tesoro

Is it possible to have an adjustable frequency on a Tesoro? I'm talking about one with a dial so you can adjust it to exactly where you want it. I was thinking about it today when I was at an area with some really super bad EMI. My Outlaw and Tejon won't work at that location, because their frequency is either too low or too high, but my Cibola and Vaquero will work there. Just barely though.

Another benefit from having an adjustable frequency is being able to set the frequency that's best suited to find either silver or gold. Maybe 3kHZ to 18kHz.:shrug:

Would be nice. It would need an adjustment on the detector to adjust the coil too. Wonder if that could be done.

Dont know...theres that 'HZ' feature on the F70 I have...I'm not sure how it works, but it does sort of let a guy find a stable 'HZ' setting around EMI heavy places, when things get chattery....I'm not sure if its just a filter feature or what?...I dont think it actually changes the Freq...? Its a good idea Tab...:thumbup:

minelab does have it on one of their fancy ones, 1.5kHz - 100 kHz dont see why it could not be done on a tesoro. just need someone who would know what the hex they were doing. maybe tesoro's new one will have something like that on it. haha
 
I hear what you are saying tabman....with my limited knowledge of detectors and how they work with respect to the coils fitted, the closed things would be minelabs X Terra series, where the coil has a chip (or something) that adjusts the signal frequency...but you can only adjust frequency by chaning coils....that I see as a problem for a detector having an adjustable frequency (as distinct from a multi-frequency) which adjusts more than, say 1 kHz....you could lose performance through the coil not working properly..I am presuming we are talking about a single frequency detector....I think it would take a minor revolution in coil development, as well as in detector development....JMHO
 
Since you have a selector switch on the V to choose three different freqs, why couldn't it be replaced with a potentiomer to run anywhere between those freqs?
 
I am wondering if it could something to do with patents,the Aussie detector company could have some form of paper that stitches the market up for adjustable frequencies.Of course this is only speculation on my part and could be totally wrong.

Don't forget if you fooled with the frequencies the coil would be rendered useless once it was out of range for the windings it is now set at..
 
Tab I believe it is easier said than done. The coils are tuned to a specific frequency. The X-terra coils are each tuned to a specific frequency- change the coil change the freq. Changing frequencies without changing the coil frequency would not be ideal. A solution to this would be a multi-tap coil where each tap on that coil would be a different frequency. This would give you one coil with several frequencies depending on what tap on that coil was selected. The tap could automatically be selected by what frequency the user detected. Maybe this is what the FSB Minelabs do.

Frequency shift is different, it just slightly changes the xmit frequency so that it is no big deal for the coil, meaning it is close enough to the coil freq.

Either way, I'm onboard with the idea!
 
Are you wanting to get a broader range of frequency? Just the fact that frequency can be somewhat adjustable on a Tesoro means the possibility is there for something more. I know the current adjustments are in pretty minor increments but.....who knows.
I'm electronically deficient so I hope someone else can help.

The toggle shifts 3 frequencies.
You have to know where the 3 resistors, capacitors are that need to be removed, min and max values of them before you can replace with a pot.
And you don't know if those resistors, capacitors are tied in with some other components to make it work correctly.

I know there has been a mod done overseas. Attached picture gives an idea...........
 
Maybe the new Cazadorl will have that:rofl:.As said by rainy you can change coils on the x terra and change frq. you can also use noise cancel to shift frq.in 80 hz steps +/- 160 hz.I think XP Deus has a good idea you can change freq. from 4 kHz, 8 kHz,12 kHz and 18 kHz with the same coil. Tesoro needs to make a all digital detector ,I do not think that a analog unit could handle a variable freq. like you are taking about ,but they could have more range on the toggle maybe four or five freq instead of three .:rage:
 
The hot detectors run between 14 and 17.5 khz range with the same coils. You should be able to adjust between them. That picture Sven put up appears to do just that. I bet the usable range is even higher 12 to 20 or so, but the further out you get the less likely it will perform well.

Exactly. Not only are they at different frequencies, they use the same coil. Makes you wonder how the detector is tuned to the coil. One coil for two different frequencies? Whatever they are doing it works.

sven,would a simple ferrite filter work on the coil cable to eliminate emi like it would on a computer or a a cb cable ?

There are those that believe by power of suggestion that those ferrite chokes work on metal detectors......................
