Adjusting a Whites Pinpointer

Dan-Pa.

New member
I bought a second hand unused Whites 120 mm bullseye pinpointer and at best got a 1/2 inch depth on a dime..Took the four small screws out of the back( eyeglass screwdriver works well) and don't touch the larger black screw as it holds the rod securely.
Upper righthand corner was a trimpot which I adjusted clockwise as far as it would go and increased my depth but the unit sounded off when button was engaged..The trick is to turn it slowly counterclockwise until it doesn't sound off unless a target is present..Happy to say am now getting approx. 1 1/4 inch on a dime and 1 1/2 on a quarter which is as good or better than most handheld pinpointers..
I have no knowledge of the earlier Whites(White) unit or the new improved 11 version they now sell...

please use this unit for a few outings and give it a good field testing.
I have the same unit and would like to hear how it works over a number of uses.

I did this to mine as well several years ago. It will false more but it does go a little deeper, but the falses don't bother me any. You can put a mark using a small tipped magic marker on one of the slots to the side of the metal housing of the pot then if you want to return it to its original position, it is easily done. I wouldn't do it on a pinpointer under warrantee just to safe.

Idea is to adjust back counterclockwise just to the adjustment where it stops sounding off when turned on for optimum depth. Have no problems with it and remember over the years Whites made several so they may differ internally...As far as one under warranty very easy to mark original setting and can set back if it needs to go back for repair...
