Adventure Cruise to Western Blue Cut:cool:

I got out for a few short and largely unsuccessful hunts this weekend (still sanded in) and I had planned on going out for this afternoon's low tide. Friends of ours invited us to go on an afternoon cruise to Western Blue Cut for some snorkelling so the hunting got shelved until next week. Western Blue Cut has some wonderful scenery and a good tropical fish population as it is on the edge of the main barrier reef that surrounds Bermuda. Many ships have met their end on these reefs over the past 500 years so I decided to keep my eyes open for sunken treasure but no treasure of the golden kind was to be found today.
Instead the Princess and I enjoyed a great time with great friends and a little bit of an adventure on our cruise to the Cut.

9 of us head out to the Cut on Hat Trick a 38 foot trimaran captained by Keith Ward, plenty of refreshing beverages to go around

Once we got to the Cut I broke out my underwater scooter to cruise the reef with

The reef is truly spectacular and these photos do no do justice to the colours we saw today.

After an enjoyable dip and a suprise encounter with a mature barracuda and a 4 foot grouper it was time to head back to Mangrove Bay. We were in no rush to get back so the captain decided to ghost along in light airs which made for a pleasant trip. 3 miles out with the sun getting low and visibility ahead reduced we ran aground on one of the many coral outcroppings that have claimed so many ships before us. Fortunately, we were going slow and only sheared the rudder off, so it was over the side and lash the rudder back together.

We made it home in one piece but I missed the afternoon hunt due to the grounding. We had a fabulous day nonetheless and look forward to a trip back to the Blue Cut.

...that's called a VACATION here! :)

Sorry there was no loot to show but glad you all enjoyed our little trip just the same. The captain of the boat has sailed these waters his whole life as a professional charter captain and still we got hung up on that coral head. It just goes to show you how treacherous these reefs are even for the pros.
