Advice on new detector please!

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a new detector. I've got a silver umax now but that will become my backup. Looking to spend around 500 and i primarily hunt for old coins and jewelry. I was thinking maybe vaquero but not sure how it is on coinshooting. I'm open to suggestions and am not stuck on tesoro. Does anyone have any feedback? Thanks!

I like my garret 1500 or minelab 705

1)f-75 w/5" dd coil
2)teknetics omega w/10" concentric coil
and 5" dd coil. find the extra money it's worth it!
just sayin'

Vaquero is a really capable detector. Would do really well.

I agree with jmaryt, maybe throw in the f-5.

What I would recommend depends on if you want a new or used detector. Five hundred dollars will by alot of used detector. If you want new there are several great detectors in that range. What comes to mind are Vaquero, Exterra 505, and Fisher F5. If you want a detector with a display, the F5 is a great detector. If you want "beep and dig", go with the V. So far as used, I have seen Minelab Explorer 11's sell in this range. Garrett 1500's, Cortes, XLT, and the list goes on. The bottom line is you can get a 1000 dollar detector for 500 bucks. If buying used, deal with only known members of this forum. 99.9 % of the people here will treat you great. Good luck with your choice and by all means ask questions. R.L.

Vaquero is a fantastic coin hunter .I have one and it has paid for its self . I think I would find a almost new AT pro since it has been doing well on the forums and it is water proof to 10 feet. I hear it is not good at the salt water beaches though.

AT Pro was another one i was looking at but I'm a little worried about all the mixed reviews with it. I'm definitely looking to get something new or like new. Thanks everyone for the advice. If anyone else wants to chime in then by all means feel free!

White's MXT or MXT Pro is a great coin and jewelry detector.

Me... I am partial to the Teknetics Omega.....as a pure coinshooter/jewelry unit. As JMaryT said....get the optional 11" & 5" DD coils and its like a whole new machine. Now if your area has low/med mineralization, that stock elongated concentric coil will kick really well, especially in iron/bottlecap infested areas.
Being the holidays you might be able to get a nice coil pckg with substantial savings. Check out one of the Forum's sponsors. They'll take good care of you and are as competitively priced as anyone. Plus they are authorized dealers, which if you want your 5 warranty on Fisher/Teknetics, the unit must be purchased from authorized dealer.
Each unit has its plus's & minus's...its really your call and responsibility to learn what would serve you best.
Good Luck on your quest.

Hey guys, I've been researching quite a bit lately and have decided that I want something with a display. I love the tesoros and I will probably get a vaquero eventually, but for now I've narrowed it down to a new AT Pro or a used MXT or M6. How does everyone feel about those? Is the depth of the White's machines comparable to the AT Pro? What are the pros and cons of both? I don't really do water hunting, so that isn't really a selling point for me. Anyone have any feedback on these? Thanks!

the m6 is a "terrific coin freak" with the 6" eclipse coil attached!

I have several detectors but my 2 favorites I would never want to part with are my Explorer SE and my White's M6 .

The M6 is a brilliant detector, often overlooked because of it's simplicity. It is deep and excellent in the trash,it will also cope with all types of ground....even the wet sand at the beach.Simple but brilliant.

One more thing...what would a good price be on a used M6?

Around $400.00 .I got mine a couple of years back for $390.00 It had everything that came with it except the original box .It had 11 months of transferable warranty on it and a nice set of White's headphones .It looked like it never even been used . The guy listed it as priced for a quick sale .

Call one of the forum sponsors, talk to him-- he might have a used machine.
