So why is it that I read that these coin hunters are looking for max depth for those old silvers are all running disc 4 and 6?

I forgot to post that to get the nickels and keep the depth I had to notch them in.

Just kind of thinking to get the most out of this machine I would set the disc at max and notch in all other targets I wanted to find.

Am I missing something??

I do not know the particulars if notching out after running up disc works like your asking.. I have never used much notching to be honest.. I do use more discrimination though..and have always gotten great depth with the 75's. I have never been a big ring hunter..........I mostly do coin detecting. Frankly that is because I don't like digging a lot of tabs..That said the F75 still nails the old 60's tabs no matter the setting.. Nothing I have ever set knocks them out.. if you figure that out let me know how please..

Most want to find all rings and relics is why they use less discrimination.ALSO BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE ON NULLING OUT A GOOD TARGET CLOSE TO A TARGET DISC'D OUT. And some don't read the manual LOL and know the disc on the 75 DOESN'T MAKE THE MACHINE LOSE DEPTH. Notice I said depth. . That allows people like me to still get depth with more discrimination. Some are use to less discrimination the more depth on conventional detectors ......... So they set up what they know and learned over the years...

The F75 is a remarkable detector in many ways............. It does take some getting used to......

I'm far from an expert with any detector, and like you always learn something new with the F75's.. Not all of it is to my liking that I learn..But most is !!!........

Jim Tn has a ton of experience with the F75 and might be able to answer your questions ...... Maybe different soils get a different reaction on the detector too. At best it's what settings each person likes, understands, and is use to using ..

Example. I swear by the shoulder to shoulder swing for better ID on targets .... it works for me.. Many will state BS it does not work.......... and they slow down their swing like they do on other detectors they have used.. and it was required for better results ( Separation)...... what's better really?. A millisecond faster or two maybe, or a tad deeper ??? Yep it's faster and maybe deeper depending on the person swinging, Yet it might not be noticeable to some.. Fast swing speed just might not be desirable to some people. Just not their detecting style. I have trouble slowing my swing down so the F75 speed of recovery and the separate sound ( Audio) works great for my style.

Ron this may answer your question directly ...........

From the manual.................The F75 discrimination system is much improved over conventional discrimination systems,
and may function quite differently than other discriminators you may be accustomed to. In
older systems, the apparent sensitivity decreases as discrimination level increases. The F75

YO Ron I was wondering how you got a nickel at 65 disc.

I have been working on that shoulder to shoulder swing, I am starting to get a little bit of a handle on it. At first it was like I heard something but where to heck was it. So in order to locate it I would keep swing speed up and shorten the stroke until I could get some idea about where it was at and then I would do the bigger stroke to get the ID. I was out the other day and found a couple of dollars in clad mostly quarters then I hit one that required digging. I kind of walked on because I was picking the quarters out of the grass, but I stepped back and hit it again and it was still there but it was down there. So I PPed it and started down and somewhere about 6" down I could see the edge of a silver dime. Man glad took the time to dig it. I guess the silver / gold thrill will never go away.
