Air tested my returned Vaquero with 5.75 concentric coil...Holy Moly

Can someone tell me what exactly they do when they retune the coil? I sent my Vaquero back about 1 week ago because I never got much depth with it since I bought it & was unable to GB it lately. the best I got was 5" on a dime on air test.
I hear ya! I had the same problem. Please remember that you must get into supertune range to get the good depth numbers that some report. My V doesn't seem to find dimes very deep either, but maybe I wasn't maxed on the supertuning. You may or may not be able to run at max threshold and sensitivity depending on the areas you are detecting in. When you tune so hot it is sometimes on the edge of chatter.
Sometimes the coil does not have enough windings of copper wire when it leaves the factory. Then they must rewind (re-spin) with new copper wire to the proper number of windings and double check that the right amount of windings have been achieved by doing a final test.

I set the ground balance by doing the 5 turns counter clockwise and 2 turns clockwise.

What the h&// are you talking about?

Never mind, just went back through the manual for air testing, sorry.

It's ok Bill, lol. I never knew what it meant either until I read on a post that its how you put the ground balance at a neutral position

I sure hope Nathan or someone at Tesoro steps in here soon about this, I have tried to PM him, but he doesn't have enough time on the forum for PMs.
When they make a coil, it is done on a machine that is programmed for the amount of turns they want for that size coil. Its unlikely that the machine will drop or add a turn here or there. After the coil is made and has been baked off, it is then placed in the housing and filled with epoxy. I don't think it is economically feasible to remove the coil from the epoxy to add or remove a turn for 'retuning'. Its cheaper to scrap the coil and put a new one on. Retuning your coil to the machine is more likely done internally by adjusting pots on the board.
If I'm wrong, I hope someone from Tesoro chimes in and says so.
